Project Background

Translational research utilizes real-world data sets to understand patient responses to cancer treatments, often integrating complex and non-standardized molecular and clinical data. Clinical datasets designed for specific scientific questions typically lack detailed granularity, making exploration challenging.

This project aims to leverage graph databases to overcome these challenges by deploying flexible, multidimensional data structures that facilitate easier access and intuitive querying. Through this initiative, we hope to develop AI-driven querying techniques using natural language, enhancing our ability to extract valuable insights from complex datasets.

Responsibilities

  • Technology Exploration: Investigate various graph database technologies for clinical data management, assessing their strengths and limitations.
  • Data Model Comparison: Analyze and compare data structures of graph and relational databases to identify effective frameworks for clinical data.
  • Pilot Database Development: Design and implement a prototype database for standardizing clinical real-world data to support robust data integration and access.
  • Natural Language Query Development: Create methods for querying graph databases using natural language, employing advanced AI technologies.
  • Findings Presentation: Regularly present progress and insights in team meetings, ensuring clear communication of developments and challenges.
  • Bonus Objective: Develop a user interface for easy querying, visualization, and presentation of database results.
Requirements
  • Education: BSc/MSc student in bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field.
  • Technical Skills: Strong technical skills with significant experience in Python programming. Familiarity with AWS is a plus.
  • Soft Skills: Comfortable with pioneering research, creative processes, scientific thinking, and technical requirements.
