We are currently hiring for our Paris office, a Junior Data Scientist M/F (6 months internship)

The team you will be joining: the Minerve team

Minerve is a multi-year, multi-tenant project which aims at providing the SNCF (national rail company) with a broader comprehension of the risks associated with climate change on their infrastructure and more effective decision-making processes regarding maintenance and/or investment decisions. Kayrros mandate in the consortium is to lead the R&D of the project on two primary axes:

- understanding the impact of climate change on the nature and frequency of extreme weather events, and

- understanding the vulnerability of SNCF assets in relation to these extreme events.

Role:

Data scientists have a vital role at Kayrros. Collaborating closely with analysts and data engineers, they contribute to all phases of projects, including scoping, data identification and collection, feature creation, model design, visualization, testing, and product enhancement with clients.

They face two key challenges:

The diversity of available data (they have to integrate multiple data sources: text data, satellite images, time series, etc.) and

The diversity of problems (supervised, unsupervised, etc.).

As a data scientist, you will have to:

Formulate problems considering available data and information value,

Design, implement, and test machine learning algorithms, and

Regularly suggest ideas to enhance products and participate in all team decisions.

In the Minerve team, you will be assigned one of the following three subjects: Analysis of the vulnerability of SNCF assets, Projection of the "extreme temperature swings" weather event, or weather data upscaling.

Requirements

This is an ideal opportunity if you are seeking a six-month internship starting between January and May 2024, and you wish to join a rapidly growing startup.

- You have a strong background in and are passionate about machine learning, statistics, operations research. You are deeply interested in various subjects including deep learning, machine learning applied to time series, image, and signal processing. You have experience in at least one of these areas.

- You have strong Python programming skills, Machine Learning libraries, data visualization packages, and data manipulation. Prior exposures to GitHub are preferred.

- You are dynamic, curious, and eager to learn about climate models, geo-analysis, and remote sensing.

- You can design and deliver working prototypes rapidly and then put them into production with the support of software engineers.

- You can communicate clearly in English, including with non-technical individuals.

- You are ready to actively contribute and have a significant impact on the success of the company.
