Job Description: Lead Data Scientist - Corporate Security
Job Grade: 30H
Application Deadline: 6/23
Flex Position: 3 days in-office, 2 days remote
This position will lead and advocate for various data science teams, emphasizing best practices in the development and implementation of advanced analytic systems, predictive and prescriptive models. You will collaborate with data scientists, data analysts, data engineers, machine learning engineers, business domain owners, and application developers to provide insights that inform confident business decisions.
As a Lead Data Scientist, you will evaluate and adopt emerging technologies to support statistical modeling, machine learning, distributed computing, and run-time performance tuning. Your role will significantly bolster UPS's execution of broad advanced analytics initiatives aimed at delivering value to stakeholders, with the possibility of managing departmental personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead data analysts and machine learning engineers in the implementation of scalable models and systems that deliver optimal results.
- Act as a subject matter expert in UPS business processes, data, and advanced analytics capabilities.
- Define strategies supporting the creation, development, and delivery of analytic solutions that meet business needs.
- Develop and prototype algorithms to ensure analytic results align with business requirements.
- Analyze large datasets to derive insights for building analytic systems and predictive models.
- Identify and evaluate cutting-edge technologies, data science/machine learning libraries, and data platforms.
- Provide thought leadership and technical guidance to data science project teams.
- Champion best practices in adopting Cloud-AI technologies and machine learning libraries to derive business insights.
- Communicate insights and recommendations to business customers and senior leadership.
- Manage analytics projects and serve as a contact point to ensure alignment with project goals.
Qualifications
Requirements:
- Strong ability to engage with business and executive-level stakeholders to translate business problems into high-level analytics solutions.
- Extensive experience working with large-scale, complex datasets to create machine learning, predictive, forecasting, and optimization models.
- Proven track record of handling ambiguity, prioritizing needs, and delivering results in a dynamic environment.
- Expertise in data management pipelines involving data extraction, analysis, and transformation using data querying languages (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, BQ) or scripting languages (e.g., Python, R).
- Hands-on experience with launching large-scale advanced analytics projects and adapting available Cloud-AI technologies and machine learning frameworks.
- Ability to communicate technical concepts to non-experts and present data-driven results effectively.
- Experience in developing analytical solutions using various techniques (e.g., Supervised, Unsupervised, Deep Learning, NLP).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Master’s Degree in a quantitative field (e.g., mathematics, computer science, economics) or equivalent job experience.
