Lead Database Administrator and Business Data Analyst Description: Applies developed subject matter knowledge to solve common and complex business issues within established guidelines, recommending appropriate alternatives. Tackles problems of diverse complexity and scope. This role can act as a team or project leader, directing team activities and facilitating information validation and team decision-making processes. It requires independent judgment within generally defined policies and practices to identify and select a solution, and is capable of handling most unique situations. May seek advice to make decisions on complex business issues. Responsibilities: - Design and establish secure and performant data architectures, enhancements, updates, and programming changes for parts and subsystems of data pipelines, repositories, or models for structured/unstructured data. - Analyze design and determine coding, programming, and integration activities required based on general objectives and knowledge of product or solution architecture. - Write and execute complete testing plans, protocols, and documentation for assigned parts of data systems or components. Also, identify, debug, and create solutions for issues with code and integration into data system architecture. - Lead a team of other data engineers to develop reliable, cost-effective, and high-quality solutions for assigned data systems, models, or components. - Collaborate and communicate with the project team regarding project progress and issue resolution. - Represent the data engineering team for all phases of larger and more complex development projects. - Build cloud-based database systems of high availability and quality. - Design and implement databases according to requirements. - Minimize database downtime and monitor database performance to provide fast query responses. - Provide proactive and reactive data management support and training to users. - Determine, enforce and document database policies, procedures, and standards. - Perform regular tests and evaluations to ensure data security, privacy, and integrity. - Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors. - Review SQL code and database changes. - Manage database deployments across all environments. - Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards. - Provide database reports to users in a timely manner and in an appropriate format. - Recommend and implement emerging database technologies. - Establish consistent customer service SLAs and commit to high quality in the customer experience. - Work with engineering teams to resolve production incidents. - Coordinate database processes across different products and organizations. - Provide ad-hoc data analysis reports for executives and upper management. - Track and manage database-related bugs using JIRA. - Collect data from various sources and transform it into insights to improve business decisions. - Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced staff members. Knowledge & Skills: - Ability to use data engineering tools, languages, and frameworks to mine, cleanse, and explore data. - Proficiency in NoSQL & relational based systems with expert level of transactional SQL language. - Proficiency in complex, distributed, and massively parallel systems. - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to represent complex algorithms in software. - Strong understanding of database technologies and management systems. - Strong understanding of cloud-based systems/services. - Knowledge of database architecture testing methodology, including executing test plans, debugging, and testing scripts and tools. - Excellent written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English and the local language. - Ability to effectively communicate product architectures, design proposals, and negotiate options at management levels. - Knowledge of other programming languages such as Java, C++, or Python is desirable. - Familiarity with the Scala language with Spark SQL is a nice-to-have. - Understanding of the analytics pipeline with AWS services (EC2, RDS, S3, EMR, Redshift, etc.) Scope & Impact: - Collaborates with peers, junior engineers, data scientists, and the project team. - Typically interacts with high-level individual contributors, managers, and program teams. - Leads projects requiring data engineering solutions development. Education & Experience: - Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering, or equivalent. - Proven working experience as a Database Administrator. - Hands-on experience with database standards and end-user applications. - Experience with AWS cloud services and Linux environments. - Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity, and SQL. - Familiarity with database design, documentation, and coding. - Problem-solving skills and the ability to think algorithmically. - Understanding of relational and dimensional data modeling. - Strong mathematical and statistical knowledge. - Typically has 5-10 years of experience.
