About the Role: Principal Applied Scientist, Machine Learning

As a Principal Applied Scientist at Rec Room, you'll be at the forefront of designing, developing, and implementing machine learning models to optimize our in-game store recommendations and deliver valuable content to users. Your work will support creators in monetizing their content and play a crucial role in Rec Room's business success.

Your Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement production-level ML models to deliver impactful commerce content.
  • Collaborate with the ML Infra team to establish a roadmap for real-time personalized ranking models.
  • Conduct A/B tests, analyze model performance, and dig deep into data to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Work with the Analytics Engineering team to build pipelines that facilitate model building using sophisticated features.
  • Establish best practices, mentor junior Data Scientists, and provide expert guidance.

Qualifications We Seek

  • Master's or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of ML experience in a production environment, especially in ranking/recommendations.
  • Expertise in recommendations, ranking, personalization, search, and/or content discovery.
  • Strong proficiency in Python and SQL.
  • Deep familiarity with ML infrastructure for effective collaboration with our infrastructure team.
  • Extensive experience with experimentation and A/B testing.
  • Knowledge of dbt and Spark/Databricks is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

The base pay range for this role is $178,538—$250,944 USD, which may vary based on location, experience, and skills. Additional compensation includes stock options and potentially a sign-on bonus. Our comprehensive benefits package includes:
