About the Role

We are seeking a Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join the Ad Ranking team at Snap! In this role, you will drive the technical roadmap, advance the core ML capabilities of the ad optimization stack, and support various business verticals including app/web monetization and dynamic product ads.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, implement, and scale critical machine learning models to support Snap's monetization strategies.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to set and align on machine learning strategies to meet company objectives.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest technology in machine learning and apply this knowledge to tackle complex problems innovatively.
• Work with leadership to enhance the ML tech stack and improve overall organizational performance.
• Understand product requirements, evaluate trade-offs, and deliver innovative solutions.
• Ensure best practices for availability, scalability, operational excellence, and cost management.
• Provide technical direction to influence the entire ML community at Snap.

Required Skills & Abilities

• Strong understanding of machine learning, deep learning approaches, and algorithms, especially in advertising, recommendation, and search domains.
• Experience leading a team focused on online ranking/recommendation models.
• Proficiency in designing, training, and optimizing advanced machine learning models.
• Excellent programming and software design skills.
• Ability to learn new concepts and technologies proactively and apply them effectively.
• Strong problem-solving skills and experience in leading complex technical initiatives.
• Excellent collaboration and mentorship abilities.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or equivalent experience.
• 11+ years of industry experience in machine learning.
• Experience in developing and shipping scalable machine learning models for recommendation or ranking use cases.
• Proficiency with TensorFlow, PyTorch, or related deep learning frameworks.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in online advertising including ad targeting, ranking, auction, or marketplace optimization.
• Advanced degree in Machine Learning, Computer Vision, or Mathematics.
• Experience working with cross-functional executives and management within a global organization.
• Proven track record of delivering results in a dynamic and collaborative environment.
• Experience working with a diverse group of engineers.
• Contributions to AI publications.

Compensation

Snap Inc. offers competitive pay based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. The salary ranges are as follows:

• Zone A (CA, WA, NYC): $244,000 - $366,000 annually.
• Zone B: $232,000 - $348,000 annually.
• Zone C: $208,000 - $311,000 annually.

This position is also eligible for equity in the form of RSUs.
