Role Summary

At Pfizer, the Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecules (PSSM) team is pivotal in developing the active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs), formulations, and manufacturing processes that transform laboratory discoveries into potential new treatments. Under the banner of "Making Today’s Discoveries Tomorrow’s Medicines", we are excited to announce an opening for an ML/AI engineer within our newly established Data Sciences organization in Chennai, India. This role is integral to supporting PSSM’s digital evolution through the innovative use of ML/AI technology in developing applications that enhance our operational efficiency and product development.

Job Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with partner development lines and data science team members to translate PSSM business needs into technical requirements for ML solutions.
  • Manage large datasets, preparing and cleaning them for model training and evaluation while ensuring data integrity and addressing potential biases.
  • Design, develop, and implement machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow, PyTorch, and scikit-learn into business workflows.
  • Utilize MLOps tools and best practices to integrate ML models into production systems efficiently, maintaining high model performance and availability.
  • Enhance machine learning pipelines by automating tasks, optimizing workflows, and continuously advancing our ML capabilities.
  • Document ML projects and technical decisions comprehensively, and communicate insights and results with stakeholders to drive business strategy.
  • Stay updated on ML research advancements and identify opportunities for performance improvement and innovation.
  • Facilitate the upskilling of the organization on ML/AI applications and foster a culture of continuous learning.

Qualifications Required

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science (with a focus on ML), Mathematics, or a related field with a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience. A PhD degree is a plus.
  • Profound knowledge of various ML algorithms and concepts such as supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning networks, and architectures for edge devices.
  • Strong programming skills in Python, including experience with ML libraries like TensorFlow and PyTorch.
  • Experience in data preprocessing, cleaning, feature engineering, model evaluation, and tuning.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms, containerization technologies like Docker and Kubernetes, and MLOps tools is advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience in deploying large-scale ML systems and AI applications in pharmaceutical contexts is highly desirable.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a cross-functional team.
