Snapshot
At Google DeepMind, you will have the opportunity to revolutionise AI by using powerful AI in Chip Design. We are developing research breakthroughs that have an impact on different Google products, enabling the most complex AI models to run on the most sophisticated chips!
About Us
We create and apply cutting-edge AI methods and models to Chip Design in collaboration with research and product teams across Google. Our team's mission is to "Explore new spaces and deliver breakthrough findings." Our team consists of researchers, research engineers, and software engineers who have already had a significant influence on real products via research breakthroughs. We develop the path for new ideas that may become new products. We work closely with hardware engineers and architects to introduce novel ideas into real products.
We recently competed in and won the IWLS 2023 Programming Contest by generating new circuits from scratch using Deep Learning, Simulated Annealing, and Reinforcement Learning. At GDM, we have established a remarkable culture and work environment where long-term ambitious research grounded in real issues can thrive.
The role
As part of our team, you will have opportunities to further AI for Chip Design research to enable breakthrough capabilities and pioneer next-generation products in collaboration with major Product Areas. There are many fundamental research and transformative product landing opportunities, including, but not limited to:
- Implement advanced ML models and technologies in Chip Design
- Develop breakthroughs that will have a significant impact on Google and the entire Chip design industry
- Utilise LLMs and transformer models to speed up chip design
- Confront some of the most complex tasks in Chip Design (verification, RTL generation, PPA modelling, etc.)
Key responsibilities:
- Lead and contribute to ML for Verification and RTL generation
- Architect, guide and assess designs, algorithms, and solutions; write development codes to resolve ambiguous issues
- Identify unresolved influential research issues in Chip Design based on the present and future real-world needs
- Define Scope, plan and organise others towards shared objectives
- Expand impact by generalising solutions into reusable libraries for various use cases, and disseminate knowledge through publications, open-sourcing, and education
About you
To thrive in this role, we expect the following skills and experience:
- PhD in Computer Science or a related quantitative field, or B.S./M.S. with 5+ years of relevant experience
- Familiarity with ML, particularly ML for hardware, ML for compilers, or ML for optimization
In addition, the following would be advantageous:
- Experience or interest in Chip & Hardware Design, particularly in automating Chip Design
- Experience with JAX, TensorFlow, PyTorch or similar platforms. Developed and maintained Machine Learning Infrastructure
- A self-driven engineer/research scientist who can drive new research ideas from conception to production in a fast-paced landscape
- Excelling at teamwork and cross-team collaborations
- Strong research experience, as well as publications in the fields of Machine Learning, Reinforcement Learning, Chip & Hardware Design, or related fields
Applications close at 5 pm GMT on Friday, the 3rd of November.
