The Opportunity
Reporting to the Director of Computational Biology and Data Science, the Research Scientist will lead the development of multimodal data fusion strategies and the creation of innovative AI/ML models to support research at CZ Biohub San Francisco.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement multimodal data fusion strategies.
- Build, deploy, and maintain advanced deep learning models for multimodal cellular readouts.
- Create innovative modeling approaches (e.g., deep generative models, foundation models) for diverse biological data across multiple scales (cell, tissue, organism).
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams in a dynamic scientific and engineering culture.
- Write and present findings at scientific conferences.
Qualifications
Essential
- PhD in Computer Science, Bioengineering, Computational Biology, or a related field with a focus on AI/ML.
- 3+ years of experience with Python and major deep learning libraries (TensorFlow or PyTorch).
- Proven publication track record in machine learning applied to biological data.
- Experience with large multimodal datasets and training large AI/ML models.
- Proficiency in Linux environments and version control systems (e.g., git).
- A passion for staying current with state-of-the-art research in machine learning and multimodal reasoning.
- Strong professional judgement and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to adapt and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Nice to Have
- Knowledge of learning paradigms beyond supervised learning.
- Experience with deep generative models like variational autoencoders and generative adversarial networks.
- Working knowledge of cell biology and omic data normalization.

Compensation
Salary Range: $187,000 - $205,700
