Snapshot We are recruiting a Research Scientist to join our team who will investigate the development of next-generation information systems and language modeling technologies that will be used for creating safe and accurate systems for reasoning and retrieving information. The role Within the team, Research Scientists are motivated to lead/support a problem-based research agenda aimed at generating both fundamental and practically applicable technological progress in the capability of organizing and making information universally beneficial with AI. The expectation is to carry out original research in a manner that maintains a balance between long-term research strategies and short-term user value on significant information needs. Key responsibilities: - Lead the idea generation and development of new capacities of LLM-based systems for search, reasoning, and question answering. - Collaborate with research engineers to establish prototypes for new products and/or work with product groups in Google to identify and implement methods where AI can be utilized to enhance existing Google products. - Participate in academic conferences and reports. About you: To ensure your success as a Research Scientist at Google DeepMind, we look for the following skills and experience: - A PhD in a relevant technical field or equivalent practical experience. - Experience working with machine learning models, especially LLMs, for instance, in evaluating their performance, and enhancing performance using techniques like fine-tuning, in-context learning, and prompt optimization. In addition, the following experience would be beneficial: - Experience with human evaluation design, managing human data collections, and rigorous statistical analysis of performance. - Experience in systems that incorporate AI or ML with human interfaces, databases or knowledge bases, or symbolic AI systems. - Experience working with complex AI applications or working with engineering teams. The US base salary range for this full-time position varies between $185,000 - $293,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
