Senior Analyst, Data Engineer
Overview:
MasterCard Advisors is shaping the future of data insights by utilizing billions of anonymized, aggregated transactions in a 10 petabyte data warehouse to assist financial institutions, merchants, media, and governments in managing their businesses more effectively. Advanced Analytics is responsible for delivering client services by concentrating and improving Mastercard Advisors' world-class analytical, modeling, software coding, data sourcing, product development, product management, econometrics, and associated delivery capabilities. This role involves using broad knowledge from Banking, Retail, Travel, Technology, Digital, media, and/or payments industry and deep understanding of the application of big data quantitative analytics to provide hands-on support for information product development and custom analytical project delivery that satisfies and retains a global client base.
The Mastercard Economics Institute is committed to promoting macroeconomic thought leadership to support Mastercard's efforts to cultivate a more inclusive and sustainable digital economy. The Economics Institute, established in 2020, analyzes macroeconomic trends through a consumer lens, providing tailored, actionable insights on economic issues for pivotal customers, partners, and policymakers. The institute engages in producing thematic research on global and regional macroeconomic trends, consumer spending, risk, small businesses, policy, digital, and travel. The institute comprises a team of economists and data scientists who leverage and integrate data sets from within Mastercard and beyond to bring powerful insights to life. The institute actively contributes to global thought leadership through bespoke presentations, participation in key industry forums, and the creation of thematic papers, arranging events, and media involvement.
Role
We're looking for a full-stack back-end data engineer with at least 5-6 years of work experience to join MasterCard’s Economics Institute. The team member would play a crucial part in shaping the Economics Institute's engineering discipline, contributing significantly to the overall success and value of the team's products, reports, and outputs. Key skills include strong proficiency in big Data Architecture & technologies, understanding data processing and storage concepts, the ability to design scalable and efficient data architectures, ownership of continuous integration/continuous deployment of automated pipelines, and attention to design and user experience. Familiarity with low-level languages, advanced R, and Quarto languages (R, Python, Julia, Observable.js) would be a plus.

Design data models that define the structure, bonds, and constraints of data entities. Establish data integration, guaranteeing consistency and quality across different sources and systems. Collaborate with stakeholders to develop a data strategy that aligns with business objectives and needs. Implement data governance policies, standards, and guidelines to ensure data security, quality, and compliance. Design data systems capable of managing growing volumes of data while maintaining performance. Manage metadata (data about data) to provide context and clarity about data sources, definitions, and lineage. Exceptional at handling multiple projects and tight deadlines. Track record of creativity, innovation, and unconventional thinking. Comfortable working with engineers, product owners, data scientists, and economists. Comfortable working in a fast-paced and fluid environment, and able to stay calm under pressure.
