About Our Engineering Team

The engineering team at Yahoo Mail is at the forefront of developing cutting-edge solutions that power not only Yahoo Mail but also the wider Yahoo ecosystem. We are shifting towards a native public cloud architecture and expanding our capabilities using the Mail Intelligence AI/ML platform. This platform intelligently personalizes user experiences by analyzing behaviors, predicting needs, and seamlessly integrating data across various sources.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Senior Big Data Engineer, you will:

• Design and implement innovative algorithms for data retrieval and ranking using advanced machine learning and NLP techniques.
• Take ownership of end-to-end machine learning systems, from data pipelines and model training to real-time inference.
• Collaborate with other engineers, data scientists, and product managers to translate complex business problems into scalable technical solutions.
• Ensure the robustness, performance, and scalability of data systems and infrastructure.
• Lead investigations and optimizations of data quality and processing pipelines.
• Provide engineering expertise for large and complex data warehousing projects.

Skills and Qualifications:

We are looking for candidates with:

• A BS degree with 7+ years or an MS degree with 5+ years in Computer Science or related fields, ideally with a focus on Data Engineering or Machine Learning.
• Extensive experience with Hadoop ecosystem technologies such as Map/Reduce, Hive, Spark, Kafka, and HBase.
• Strong foundation in algorithms, distributed computing, data structures, and databases.
• Proficiency in programming languages like Java, Python, or C++.
• Excellent problem-solving, teamwork, and communication skills.

Nice-to-have skills include experience in machine learning, analytics, data mining, deep learning platforms, SQL, Unix, Shell, and NLP or statistical methods.

Compensation and Benefits

The salary range for this position is $128,250.00 - $266,875.00 per year, varying based on location, skills, and experience. Our compensation package includes discretionary annual bonuses or commissions, equity incentives, top-tier healthcare benefits, a 401K savings plan, generous paid time off, parental leave, and an employee assistance program.
