Senior Bioinformatics Data Scientist

  • Full Time
Job expired!

We are interested in hearing from Bioinformaticians and Data Scientists with a proven history of utilising genomics and biomedical dataset analysis to assist with late stage drug discovery and clinical trial design. You will be part of Portfolio Delivery team and the Biomedical Informatics department, working within a cross-disciplinary team dedicated to the application of BenevolentAI's data integration and precision medicine efforts to our drug discovery programs.

The Portfolio Delivery team ensures the fullest exploitation of our internal analysis tools and algorithms, as well as our data, in our drug discovery programs. It supports the structuring of our drug discovery operations and develops new computational methods to help respond to biological inquiries from our diverse disease programs, for example, to assist with biomarker identification.

As an Advanced Bioinformatics Data Scientist on the team, you will contribute your technical, data analysis, and biological knowledge, providing technical expertise to our drug discovery teams in the discovery and clinical development phases of targets. In this process, you will identify and implement new methodologies that can be integrated into our standard products, hence contributing to the growth of our abilities as a company.

Responsibilities

  • Utilise the Benevolent Platform to generate biological insights that result in testable hypotheses relevant to Drug Discovery and Clinical Development operations undertaken by BenevolentAI.
  • Create programmatic tools and workflows that enable the analysis of biomedical datasets.
  • Participate as a member of a cross-disciplinary team that brings together the best-in-class Informatics, Drug Discovery, and Translational Medicine abilities to tackle the scientific challenges BenevolentAI is looking to find solutions for.
  • As a member of the Biomedical Informatics department, you will be responsible for investigating, prototyping, and implementing new scientific capabilities, and disseminating the latest Bioinformatics, Data Science, and Computational Biology research trends and developments across the organization.

We are looking for:

  • A PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field of research
  • Experience (1+ years, preferably industry-based) of analysing biomedical datasets that reveal novel biological insights and support Clinical Development activities such as biomarker discovery and clinical trial design.
  • Experience working in the clinical development stage of drug discovery.
  • Advanced programming skills in at least one language. We strongly prefer Python, but are also interested in R. Applicants should also be familiar with the programming language packages that support Bioinformatic and Data Science activities.
  • A history of processing and deriving novel insights from 'omics datasets and related resources.
  • At least one of the following:
    • Experience with using biomolecular network-based approaches to aid drug discovery or clinical biomarker development e.g., causal reasoning, pathway mapping, and functional module detection.
    • Experience using precision medicine methods to identify patient subgroups
    • Experience in processing and analyzing NGS datasets (such as RNAseq or epigenetic data).
    • Experience in data integration, such as using network-based or ML approaches.
    • Experience in designing experiments to produce data and gain insights into cellular assay systems or patient-derived tissues' molecular behavior.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence at all levels and across all departments.
  • People familiar with some of the technologies we prefer would receive bonus points. These include: Neo4j, GraphQL, MySQL, Kubernetes, Jupyter.
