In the Ecosystem & Operational Risk team, the Payment Fraud Disruption group is responsible for creating vital risk and fraud detection and prevention applications and services at Visa. This involves the generation of ideas, architecture, design, development, and testing of products, applications, and services that offer Visa's clients solutions to detect, prevent, and combat fraud on Visa and Visa client payment systems.
This role is perfect for an experienced data engineer who enjoys working with business and technology partners to solve challenging fraud prevention issues. You will play a significant role in shaping the collective strategic vision for the Ecosystem & Operational Risk platform and in determining tools and services that protect Visa’s payment systems.
The candidate for this position should have a strong data engineering background, with demonstrated experience building, training, implementing scalable batch, and real-time data processing systems for payments, risk, or fraud prevention products. This experience should be within the payments or payments risk domain or in constructing comparable solutions for similar sectors.
This candidate must have a strong academic track record and display exceptional data engineering abilities. The candidate should be a self-starter, comfortable with ambiguity, possess keen attention to detail, and demonstrate excellent collaborative skills.
The ideal candidate will display enthusiasm and passion for utilising Generative AI to improve existing fraud detection mechanisms and to innovate and solve new fraud use cases. This engineer will use code generation capabilities, such as GitHub copilot, to drive efficiencies in software development.
Essential Functions
As a Senior Data Engineer, you will assist in designing, enhancing, and building next-generation fraud detection solutions in an agile development setting.
Convert business problems into technical data issues, ensuring that key business drivers are considered in collaboration with product stakeholders.
Oversee the entire development effort for the timely delivery of high-quality solutions that meet requirements, align with the architectural vision, and comply with all pertinent standards. Responsibilities encompass all solution development phases.
Cooperate with project team members (Product Managers, Architects, Analysts, Developers, Project Managers, etc.) to ensure the development and execution of new data-driven business solutions.
Deliver all code commitments and certify the completion of a comprehensive end-to-end solution that meets and exceeds business expectations.
Contribute to the scoping and designing of analytic data assets, the implementation of modelled attributes, and brainstorming sessions.
Build and oversee a robust data engineering process to create and implement self-serve data and tools for Visa’s data scientists.
Assume other tasks related to data governance, system infrastructure, analytics tool assessment, and other cross-function tasks, when needed.
Carry out data engineering projects of all sizes, either independently or as a component of a project team.
Ensure project delivery within timelines and budgetary constraints.
Effectively communicate status updates, issues, and concerns in an accurate and timely manner.
This is a hybrid role. Hybrid employees can divide their time between remote and in-office work. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days per week (determined by leadership/site), roughly equating to being in the office 50% or more of the time, based on business requirements.

Basic Qualifications: · 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience
Preferred Qualifications: · 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g., Masters, MBA, JD, MD) · Experience with developing data driven business solutions and solving data problems using a range of technologies such as Hadoop, MapReduce, Hive, Spark, NoSQL and traditional relational databases like MySQL · Experience building real-time streaming data pipelines using technologies like Kafka, Spark Streaming, ELK, etc · Experience building ETL/ELT data pipelines, data quality checks, and data anomaly detection and notification systems · Experience building large scale distributed data processing systems with high availability, low latency, and strong data consistency · Experience with development and programming languages such as Java or Python · Expertise in agile development incorporating continuous integration and continuous delivery · Strong facilitation and analytical abilities with excellent problem-solving skills · Exceptional interpersonal and leadership abilities · Competence in presenting complex ideas in a clear, concise manner · Experience with agile development, incorporating continuous integration and continuous delivery · Strong facilitation and analytical skills, with excellent problem-solving ability · Strong interpersonal and leadership abilities · Passion for delivering defect-free code that meets or surpasses the proposed defect SLA and a high sense of responsibility for the quality and timeliness of your own assignments and team assignments · Highly motivated, resourceful and results-oriented · Demonstrated ability to lead and navigate through ambiguity · Methodical and willing to conduct deep research to uncover details · Good work ethics, and a team player committed to achieving maximum results as a team · Passionate about understanding people and continually striving to improve our products · Ability to concentrate on the task at hand to achieve immediate goals while understanding and seeing the bigger picture · Expertise in web applications and web services, technology standards, and frameworks · Experience working with Splunk · Experience using test-driven development and test automation · Experience in the card industry or fintech, delivering solutions in fraud, risk, or payment space.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This role will be performed in an office environment. It will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, converse in person and over the phone, and frequently operate standard office machinery such as telephones and computers.

FOR U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire in this position is $113,000.00 to $144,000.00 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
