Job Description: This position offers a chance to join a burgeoning Business Analytics team, composed of highly intelligent and inquisitive professionals working on business intelligence transformation at Sun Life Financial (SLF) Canada. We are currently seeking a Senior Data Solution Engineer who is enthusiastic about transforming data into actionable insight to influence business choices, with a primary focus on Cloud native technologies. You will primarily work with our Product Owners and other members of the Analytics team to understand and analyze source systems and their corresponding data, to create entity-level data design flow and models that provide optimized analytics solutions to detect anomalies, and to manage data flows between systems. What will you do? - Systematically plan, create, and maintain cloud-based data architectures in line with business needs. - Recognize, design, and implement internal process improvements: automate manual processes, optimize data delivery, rebuild infrastructure for superior scalability, etc. - Construct the infrastructure necessary for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from various data sources using SQL and AWS ‘big data’ technologies. - Participate in the development process to ensure the solutions fulfill requirements concerning design consistency, performance, maintainability, and stability. - Ensure end to end data pipelines are automated using best practices in enterprise scheduling. - Collaborate with stakeholders such as business stakeholders, Product owner, Data and Design teams to address data-related technical issues and support their data infrastructure needs. - Act as second-level support to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues with production data models. What do you need to succeed? - Experience with Cloud data platforms (AWS Data Lake, AWS Glue, Python, Spark, Kafka, etc.) and Microsoft SQL Server. - Strong SQL background, involving ETL transformations and data modeling for building systems to support data analytics. - Programming experience in at least one language such as Python, Scala, Java, or C is highly desirable. - Strong analytical, problem-solving, and process improvement skills with a passion for quality. - Demonstrated ability to break down complex business requirements into detail by seeking clarification through probing. - A highly motivated individual who can learn quickly and execute independently. - Strong verbal and written communication skills with experience in conveying complex concepts to non-technical audiences. - Independent work ethics to complete tasks and a proven ability to collaborate within a cross-functional team environment. - The ability to understand the "why" behind how things are done and to uncover the underlying principles shaping the business. - A positive attitude to thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, and to swiftly find alternative solutions to challenges. - Attention to detail and comprehensive planning, organizational and time management skills. - Working knowledge of Agile methodology. - A minimum undergraduate degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent is required. What would be beneficial to have? - Solid 3 to 5 years of experience with AWS Big data technologies. - Experience with R, Python, AWS Sage Maker. - Experience with Agile or design-driven development of analytics applications. - Knowledge of the Insurance or Financial Services industry. The base pay range is meant for the primary job location. It may fluctuate depending on the work location of the successful candidate or other considerations. In addition to base pay, Sun Life employees who are eligible will participate in various incentive plans, payment under these plans is discretionary and is based on personal and company performance.
