The Role

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to work in a multi-disciplinary team, collaborating with Developers, Designers and Product Owners, who will own their work from the initial idea to the final implementation. We continually gather information on travel related events and need someone to help us maximize a cloud based data system. The role provides opportunities to work in various areas such as commercial, marketing, engineering, logistics, and anything else that may come your way.

While the majority of Data Engineer team's projects are on AWS, there are opportunities to work with other clouds, like GCP and Azure.

Requirements

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Designing, developing, and maintaining data processing jobs in the cloud.
  • Ensuring the solutions are fault tolerant.
  • Monitoring, tuning performance and troubleshooting existing jobs.
  • Supporting data scientists and analysts in deploying their solutions.
  • Making data accessible and reusable within the organization.

Experience Required:

The Senior Data Engineer that we are looking for should have the following skills:

  • Good knowledge of general computing systems (Operating systems, network, memory layers, processes, etc).
  • Proficiency in data analysis.
  • Strong intuition in data exploration and interpretation.
  • Decent math/statistical base skills and knowledge on how to use them in data quality processes.
  • Good understanding of Data Warehouse concepts.
  • Strong knowledge of SQL, both DDL and DML scripts. Ability to optimize queries and understand the processes generated behind them.
  • Good familiarity with Big Data technologies, particularly HDFS and Spark (minimum version 2.X).
  • Strong skills in data processing with either Python or Scala, with some knowledge on both technologies.
  • Strong coding skills, good code style, testing skills and documentation.
  • Experience with Docker virtualization. (Knowledge of Kubernetes is a plus).
  • Job orchestration with Airflow or similar.
  • Some understanding of IaaC and CICD principles.
  • Good skills in data visualization through dashboards.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Proactive and a good team player.
