Your Role

As a Senior Data Engineer at Homes.com, you will accelerate our growth by building and managing sitewide tracking architecture. You will create user-friendly KPI dashboards to monitor site performance, product usage, and consumer behavior. Your responsibilities include designing automated data infrastructure, developing BI solutions, and facilitating data access and analysis for essential company teams. This hybrid position requires 3 days onsite in Washington, DC, and 2 days remote.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, deploy, and maintain real-time and batch-processed data pipelines.
  • Develop and maintain data storage and retrieval systems.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and security.
  • Integrate data from multiple source systems.
  • Develop and maintain data models and ETL/ELT processes.
  • Collaborate with analytics teams, data scientists, and business analysts.
  • Work with cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Advocate for technical and non-technical improvements, including new tools and best practices.

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution, preferably in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related field; MSc or PhD is a plus.
  • Proven commitment to previous employers.
  • Track record of successfully building and launching data-driven products.
  • 5+ years of data pipeline and database engineering experience.
  • Proficiency in designing new architectures, data models, and ETL/ELT strategies.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud-based relational and non-relational databases and SQL.
  • Deliver defect-free products with excellent performance.
  • Define architecture and development best practices.

Preferred Skills

  • Proficient in programming languages like Python, R, and SQL.
  • Performance tuning of database queries (e.g., Snowflake, Databricks).
  • Experience with No-SQL databases (e.g., DynamoDB).
  • Knowledge of data pipeline tools (e.g., Glue, Apache Airflow, Lambda).
  • Experience using Confluent Kafka.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud).
  • Experience with data frameworks (e.g., Apache Spark) and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI).
  • Monitoring and dashboard metric management (e.g., CloudWatch, Kibana).
  • Understanding of data security and privacy regulations.
