About the Team:

The Spark Driver Platform operates across all 50 US states with millions of local delivery drivers. It has grown to become Walmart's largest local delivery service provider. The mission of our Spark Driver Applied AI team is to enhance efficiency and profitability by advancing the frontiers of machine learning, data science, and economics. We develop highly reliable and scalable production systems to accelerate the growth of Spark Driver Platform. Our key focus areas include Capacity Planning, Driver Search, Driver Matching, Driver Offer Pricing, Driver Surge Pricing, Incentive Strategy, and ETA prediction.

About the Role:

As a Senior Applied Scientist, you will collaborate with business, product, and backend engineering teams to drive high-impact projects for Driver Matching and Personalization System. Your work will involve deep learning models, reinforcement learning models, recommendation systems, and causal ML models. You will play a critical role in driving innovation and optimizing revenue through the application of advanced statistical and machine learning techniques.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to ensure data science products support Walmart’s business objectives.
  • Explore trends in machine learning and optimization techniques to innovate solutions for complex business problems.
  • Build data pipelines from multiple sources and extract insights using data exploration and visualization techniques.
  • Design, implement, and deploy end-to-end machine learning solutions with consideration for optimality and computational complexity.
  • Design and execute experiments to develop NorthStar metrics, draw unbiased and robust statistical inferences, and establish causality.

Qualifications:

What You'll Bring:

  • Ph.D. or equivalent advanced degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, or related field.
  • Extensive experience in data science, machine learning, statistical analysis, reinforcement learning, personalization, and ranking.
  • Proven track record of building and deploying models in production.
  • Expertise in programming languages such as Python, Java, C, or C++.
  • Experience with large-scale data systems (Spark/Hive) and cloud computing (GCP/Azure).
  • Ability to drive projects from conception to completion in a dynamic environment.
  • Excellent communication skills to influence and inspire cross-functional teams.
