Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Data Scientist to join our dynamic and innovative team at Betfair. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will play a crucial role in driving data-driven decision making, developing advanced analytical models, and leading complex data science projects. Collaborating with cross-functional teams, you will extract insights from large datasets, develop predictive models, and provide strategic recommendations to optimize business processes and drive growth.
The ideal candidate will possess a strong background in statistics, machine learning, and programming, coupled with excellent problem-solving skills and a passion for converting raw data into actionable insights.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Data Science Projects: Plan, design, and execute end-to-end data science projects, including data collection, preprocessing, feature engineering, model development, validation, and deployment.
- Statistical Analysis: Apply advanced statistical techniques to analyze large datasets and uncover patterns, trends, and correlations that support business objectives.
- Machine Learning and Modeling: Develop and implement predictive and prescriptive models using machine learning algorithms such as regression, classification, clustering, time series analysis, natural language processing, and deep learning.
- Data Visualization: Create clear and compelling visualizations to communicate complex analytical findings to stakeholders and non-technical teams.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work with stakeholders from business, product, and engineering teams to understand requirements, identify opportunities, and provide data-driven recommendations.
- Performance Optimization: Continuously enhance the accuracy, efficiency, and scalability of existing models and algorithms.
- Mentorship and Leadership: Offer guidance and mentorship to junior data scientists, review their work, and help build a strong data science team.
- Stay Updated: Keep abreast of the latest advancements in data science, machine learning, and related fields, proactively seeking opportunities to leverage emerging technologies and techniques.
Requirements
- Education: Master's or Ph.D. in Data Science, Statistics, Computer Science, Mathematics, or a related field. Equivalent work experience will also be considered.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years in a data science role with a track record of successfully delivering data-driven projects.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R
- Strong knowledge of machine learning techniques and algorithms
- Experience with frameworks like LightGBM, XGBoost, TensorFlow, PyTorch
- Familiarity with big data technologies such as Spark or SQL
- Expertise in data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or matplotlib
- Experience with virtual environments such as Anaconda
- Experience with Docker is a plus
- Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure is a plus
- Analytical Skills: Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to interpret complex data and derive actionable insights.
- Communication: Strong verbal and written communication skills in English, able to explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Leadership: Proven experience in leading data science projects, working with cross-functional teams, and mentoring junior team members.
- Adaptability: Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
