About the Role: Senior Researcher - Deep Learning

We seek a Senior Researcher to join our Research team. Your core responsibilities will include creating cutting-edge AI models and deploying them. You will conduct applied research in Speech and Natural Language Processing (NLP) within a collaborative team environment. Key tasks include:

  • Learning new ideas from research and technology communities
  • Implementing and training new models
  • Meticulously evaluating models
  • Collaborating with engineers to deploy models in production
  • Contributing to other projects through discussions

What You’ll Do

  • Provide scientific leadership on high-impact research projects for AssemblyAI's products and applied AI technology
  • Engage with research communities through publishing papers or participating in conferences
  • Execute research projects scientifically
  • Stay updated on the latest AI research and share insights across the company
  • Collaborate with the technology leadership team to set research priorities and define project scope
  • Work with the engineering team to deploy new models into production

What You’ll Need

  • Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field
  • 2+ years of professional experience in Deep Learning research and development
  • Strong knowledge of deep learning architectures and techniques such as CNNs, Transformers, SSMs, self-supervised learning, etc.
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with PyTorch or JAX
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in technical matters

Nice to Have

  • Experience with JAX/Pallas/TPUs
  • Experience in training large Transformer models on distributed systems
  • Experience in training/fine-tuning multimodal Large Language Models
  • Expertise in writing high-performance CPU/GPU/TPU code
  • Track record of publications in top-tier conferences

Pay Transparency

AssemblyAI is committed to pay equity and offers competitive salaries adjusted for experience, skill level, and qualifications. Our salary ranges are based on industry standards and internal equity.

The base salary range for this position is $185K - $280K, applicable for candidates in the U.S. For candidates outside the U.S., salary ranges may vary and will be communicated during the process.
