Welcome to Wayfair's Machine Learning Platforms Team! We empower machine learning engineers and scientists by providing an integrated platform combining in-house and vendor solutions. Our primary mission is to make machine learning accessible and enable our professionals to tackle business problems effectively.

As a backend engineer, you will focus on cloud-native services and tooling for model development, training, and deployment. You'll be part of the MarTech, Data, and Machine Learning Engineering team, which drives Wayfair's data-centric technology platform, optimizing and powering our advertising efforts at scale. Our platforms interact in real-time with ad vendors and leverage vast amounts of data and ML algorithms to drive revenue and decision-making.

Role & Responsibilities

• Design and deliver complex engineering solutions independently.
• Work with technologies like GCP, K8s, and Python for model training and deployment tools.
• Collaborate with Machine Learning Science and Engineering teams to develop flexible ML models.
• Design robust systems handling high data volumes with resilience and anomaly detection.
• Mentor other engineers and implement best engineering practices.

What We’re Looking For

• 6+ years experience as a backend or full-stack engineer.
• Proficiency in a modern programming language, particularly Java.
• Experience with cloud providers, preferably Google Cloud Platform.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like Buildkite, Docker, and Kubernetes.
• Data Science and/or Machine Learning experience is a plus.
• Ability to design reliable systems at scale.
• Experience with system monitoring tools like Grafana and DataDog.
• Track record of iterative development and continuous learning.
• Mentorship skills and experience in conducting code and design reviews.
• Ability to collaborate with product managers to define and deliver features.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Advocate for constructive code reviews and collaborative problem-solving.
