Are you passionate about technology and innovation? The Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA is seeking a talented Student Assistant in Software Engineering for Robotics to contribute to pioneering projects in automation technology, computer science, mechanical engineering, software design, and software engineering.

Project Overview

The Robot and Assistive Systems department at Fraunhofer IPA is dedicated to developing advanced robotic solutions and technologies for sectors such as manufacturing, logistics, and assisted living. Notable projects include the Care-O-bot 4 platform and reconfigurable production lines for the automotive industry. Our latest initiative focuses on simplifying the creation of kinematic chains from CAD through innovative model-driven engineering techniques. This project aims to standardize the assembly, validation, and reconfiguration of robotic cells and production lines.

Role and Responsibilities

As a Student Assistant, you will be actively involved in tasks such as:

  • Developing standard kinematic models of actuators from CAD designs.
  • Automating the calculation of relative positions within actuator links.
  • Designing graphical user interfaces with a focus on usability and performance.
  • Enhancing solutions for real-time calibration of kinematic chains.

Candidate Profile

We are looking for candidates who are eager to learn and tackle challenges with:

  • Creativity and strong problem-solving abilities.
  • The capacity to work independently on complex tasks.
  • Proficiency in JavaScript, Python, and optionally TypeScript.
  • Experience with URDF, CAD, and SolidWorks.

What We Offer

In joining our team, you will gain:
