Job Description In the role of Data Engineer, you will be essential in implementing, improving, and maintaining reporting platforms and data pipelines throughout Block. You will collaborate with business and analytics teams to create and streamline Looker reports and underlying ETL pipelines. As a member of the Automated Reporting Tools team, you have the opportunity to develop and lead training sessions and communicate best practices, as well as offer direct assistance during office hours. Your knowledge and passion will motivate individuals across Block to adopt reporting best practices and create innovative self-serve reporting solutions! Your responsibilities will include: - Partnering with product analysts, data scientists, business users, amongst others to understand their needs and develop comprehensive solutions - Translating business requirements into actionable data tasks (English <-> SQL) - Designing and developing scalable turn-key ETL pipelines - Identifying gaps and root causes independently and designing and implementing solutions to stabilize and scale data solutions - Monitoring daily execution, diagnosing and logging issues, rectifying pipelines to ensure SLAs are met with internal stakeholders - Hosting office hours, training sessions, brown bags to promote Looker and ETL best practices throughout the company Qualifications Required: - 2+ years working on a successful business intelligence team - Strong business intuition and the ability to understand complex business systems - Strong technical abilities in SQL and data analysis skills - Proficiency in visualization platforms including Looker, ThoughtSpot and/or another BI tool - Experience with Snowflake, Redshift, MySQL or similar data warehousing - Familiarity with structuring and writing ETLs Preferred: - Prior Airflow experience - Experience with teaching/training/consulting - Work experience with Python, Ruby or Javascript - Experience with Linux/OSX command line and git Additional Information We aim to create a more inclusive economy where our customers have equal access to opportunities.
