We are developing models that dynamically calculate fraud risk scores and predict customer transaction behavior. You will spearhead Machine Learning in Fraud at Varo, working on models that both protect customers from fraud and contribute to Varo's customer base expansion and product feature accessibility. The Lead Machine Learning Scientist in Fraud will be responsible for developing the machine learning models underpinning Varo's fraud detection system. You will oversee the development and training of these models, and contribute to the architectural design supporting these models. About The Data Science Team The Data Science Team at Varo develops Machine Learning models that simplify access to funds for the right people, help shield customers from fraudsters, and revolutionize the in-app experience with real-time recommendations. What you'll be doing - Leading efforts within the organization to steer the design, development, optimization, and implementation of ML-based fraud models. - Enabling customers to have broader access to risky product features by designing a fraud system that balances precision of detection with customer experience and growth. - Working with stakeholders in the fraud organization to identify opportunities for driving business value with ML. - Collaborating with the engineering team to deploy models and monitor outcomes. - Guiding and mentoring junior machine learning scientists and engineers. You’ll bring the following required skills and experience - 5+ years of expertise in developing ML industry applications for fraud or risk applications - Demonstrated experience and/or interest in building fraud detection machine learning models - Ph.D. or equivalent in Computer Science, Statistics, or related field - Strong bias for action and a team player - Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment - Preferred: Familiarity with Sagemaker, Spark, TensorFlow, Keras, and PyTorch We realize not everyone will meet all these criteria.
