Role Overview

As our Staff Machine Learning Engineer for Coupang Media Group, Ads Quality, you will be responsible for developing and designing machine learning models, optimization algorithms and new product features for our advertising platform.

The Coupang Media Group (CMG) provides vendors with a range of marketing products and services that sell their products on Coupang. We're responsible for advertising brands and products across our e-commerce website.

This is an opportunity to be part of a new development organization within a successful company that has a strong revenue potential. We're building full-stack engineering teams to handle large scale advertising challenges, including real-time behavioral targeting, bidding, and auction systems, and search-based advertising.

In this role, you will be responsible for creating and building our new ad quality stack for our advertising platform, and eventually expand it into a full ad exchange, DSP, and SSP.

What You Will Do

• Design features and build large-scale machine learning models and systems to improve ad targeting, relevance, ranking, and engagement
• Develop new techniques for automated mechanisms, e.g., automated bidding, query expansion, etc., to enhance the efficiency of our advertising platform
• Create new techniques for providing suggestions for advertisers to identify opportunities in the marketplace and improve their return on investments
• Architect our machine learning platform at internet scale
• Lead projects across teams effectively and mentor junior developers
• Work with the product and sales teams to design and implement new ad product features

Basic Qualifications

• 10+ years of industry software engineering experience in machine learning, statistics, or information retrieval
• Deep knowledge in machine learning, deep learning, and statistical modeling
• Excellent communication skills, to both technical and business audiences
• Strong problem-solving skills
• Self-starter and innovator who enjoys solving complex problems
• A proven track record of taking ownership and delivering successful results
• Ability to handle ambiguity in business and technology
• Ability to work in a multicultural, cross-functional team
• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or a similar field

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience working with AWS (Amazon Web Services)
• Experience with advertising systems/Search advertising/Advertising Marketplace
• Experience working in startups

Salary & Benefits

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across various US geographic markets. At Coupang, your base pay is just one component of your total compensation.

The base pay for this position ranges from $142,000/year in our lowest geographic market to $309,000/year in our highest geographic market. The pay is based on several factors, including location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
