Join the team redefining how the world experiences design.

Hey, hello, welcome!

Thanks for stopping by. We know job hunting can be a bit time consuming and you're probably eager to find out what's on offer, so we'll get straight to the point.

Where and how you can work

Our main campus is in Sydney. We also have a campus in Melbourne and co-working spaces in Brisbane, Perth, and Adelaide. But you have the choice in where and how you work. That means if you want to work in the office (if you're near one), at home, or a mix of both, it's up to you.

What you’ll be doing in this role

As Canva scales up, change continues to be part of our DNA. But we like to think that's part of the fun. So this will give you a sense of the type of things you'll be working on when you start, but this might evolve.

The Video AI team at Canva is pushing the boundaries of online video editing with leading AI/ML features that empower anyone to create engaging videos. We’re striving to make Canva the top choice for everyone's video playground.

We’re thrilled to be developing amazing new features that help our rapidly growing and highly engaged user base to be more productive and tell their stories with engaging video content. We invite you to be part of this mission to help shape the future of video content creation.

2023 is a fantastic time to join the team. With the industry and the problem space advancing quickly, and the team expanding, you will have a direct impact on our ambitious plans to scale AI / ML experiences for over 100 million active users.

Canva Video has one of the largest audiences of content creators in the world. You’ll have a crucial part in achieving our vision of becoming the main platform for video. Many of our newest features aim to empower the world to design great videos through integrating "magic" AI/ML capabilities into our product, and you’ll be working in a full-stack team to train, build and own the ML services that make this possible.

What you'll do

  • Develop and train ML models to enable innovative features and enhance the productivity of our customers.
  • Keep pace with research and the rapidly evolving state-of-the-art within the video and signal processing domain. Poring over research papers and engaging with the machine learning community for these papers is a crucial part of your job.
  • Own the entire lifecycle of the code; design, development, training, testing, maintenance, and subsequent fixes and improvements as needed to support the product roadmap.
  • Work collaboratively and consult with Leads, Product Managers, and Engineers across Canva to explore the current and emerging possibilities for video AI.
  • Facilitate knowledge sharing and effectively advocate for engineering needs to non-technical stakeholders within the group.
  • Show initiative and ownership in achieving goals, and improving processes and solutions.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-team collaboration to work on new ideas and improvements that help achieve our goals.

A bit about you:

  • You are inspired by the rapidly evolving state-of-the-art in the visual AI space, and keeping pace with it is one of your key motivations.
  • You have a solid understanding of computer vision, particularly the concepts of convolutional neural networks (CNNs), transformers, and diffusion models.
  • Proficiency with the following technologies will be beneficial for this position: Deep Learning frameworks (Pytorch, Tensorflow, Keras, Theano or Mxnet), Python 3, Numpy, OpenCV, Docker and Kubernetes, and video tools including ffmpeg, oneVPL, PyAV.
  • You demonstrate a strong sense of ownership and are eager to proactively find and develop novel solutions to challenging problems.
