About the team: The ML Data Shop team plays a crucial role in the data-centric AI ML infrastructure vital for Cruise's global expansion and commercial scaling. We build a reliable, scalable, and cost-effective platform to search for impactful on-road scenarios, label the data, process the resulting dataset for model training, and close the model performance feedback loop. About the role: We are seeking an Engineering Manager with a strong history of fostering a culture of psychological safety, reliability, and clarity. You will support a high-performance team delivering a data search and extraction platform to surface crucial data for Cruise's data needs. The position can be based either in San Francisco or Seattle areas. What you'll be doing: 1. Supporting a team of proficient engineers in delivering a data search and extraction platform to surface crucial data for Cruise's data needs. 2. Assisting in expanding the team by taking an active role in recruitment, onboarding, and mentoring junior engineers. 3. Leading long-term planning and setting up scalable processes for execution. 4. Working with teams across Cruise to encourage a cooperative culture of quality and safety. 5. Helping define, develop, and model Cruise’s engineering culture and principles to deliver high-quality products while maintaining a great work-life balance for the team. What you must have: 1. 3+ years of experience supporting high-performance engineering teams. 2. 3+ years of experience building highly reliable and scalable managed services. 3. Experience with search, data mining, recommendation engine, or multimedia retrieval. 4. Proficient in creating, communicating, and executing team vision and strategy. 5. Passionate about self-driving technology and its potential global impact. 6. Prepared for challenges and taking up various roles with a startup mentality. Bonus points for: 1. Experience working on model performance feedback loops. 2. Experience working on projects using data-centric AI and active learning techniques. 3. Experience in using Kafka, Hadoop, Spark, Beam, or other data processing tools. 4. Proven record of impact in the AI industries. Why Cruise?
