Job Description

The Square Financial Crimes Machine Learning team is accountable for detecting, preventing, and reporting unlawful activity across all markets where Square operates. We work in sync with our global partners in business, engineering, counsel, and product to ensure a safe user experience while minimizing or eliminating harmful activity on our platform.

We use Machine Learning as a crucial part of our toolkit to fulfil our mission. We deploy scalable solutions to monitor billions of dollars in transactions. We uncover and terminate money laundering, terrorist financing, and other illegal activities before they affect our users. Additionally, we improve workflow and case tools, adding functions that enhance investigator productivity and automate high-volume monitoring. We are looking for senior machine learning engineers who are interested in solving critical business problems using any and all necessary tools.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Building both batch and real-time machine learning solutions for appraisal of financial crimes risk at large scale across all global markets where Square operates
  • Cooperating closely with stakeholders, business partners, and product engineering teams to ensure efficient use of data for establishing proficient solutions within our regulatory program
  • Generating well-detailed documentation of our program that can withstand regulatory scrutiny
  • Identifying new opportunities and future needs proactive for our machine learning teams
  • Leading by example by applying machine learning and engineering best practices
  • Staying updated on machine learning developments in the field, fostering an environment of continuous learning, and utilizing new learnings when applicable
  • Having a significant impact on shaping the team culture and direction

Qualifications

You Have:

  • Over 5 years of software engineering or machine learning experience
  • A degree (preferably postgraduate level) in Computer Science, Engineering, Statistics, Physics, Applied Math, or a related technical field
  • Ability to maintain important production software and develop new production software from scratch
  • Prior experience working with product, engineering, and business to prioritize, scope, design, and deploy machine learning tooling and infrastructure at scale
  • Curiosity and desire to grow and contribute to all facets of our growing team
  • Outstanding written and oral communication skills and are comfortable working with a cross-functional, globally distributed team

Additional Information

Block uses a market-based approach to pay varies according to location. U.S. destinations are grouped into four zones based on labor cost index for that geographical area. Your initial salary will be based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. Future revisions may be made in these ranges.

Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800
