The Staff Data Scientist will be critical in generating widespread impact at MongoDB by researching, prototyping and merging predictive solutions into company-wide systems. We are increasing the rate of adoption of data science models throughout the business, and you will assist us in significantly augmenting this pace.

As a senior technical member of the centralized Data Science team, this role will have crucial external and internal leadership responsibilities, including:

• Engaging with numerous stakeholders across various sectors, bridging the gap between business unit needs and state-of-the-art technical solutions. You will consistently establish trust by demonstrating how data science models influence key business metrics.
• Using and expanding your knowledge to enhance a Data Science team’s competencies through technical and business-oriented mentorship.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a link between MongoDB Data Science and business stakeholders across Product, Engineering, and GTM teams
• Manage the complete implementation of data science projects (feasibility analysis, data preparation, feature engineering and model evaluation) in partnership with data analysts, data scientists, data engineers, software engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders
• Work with MDB Research teams, collaborating to develop prototype model solutions from research outputs
• Communicate, coordinate, and collaborate effectively with end-users of data science products and respond to stakeholder needs
• Provide thought leadership to the wider organization on the most effective way to utilize machine learning technologies, frameworks and approaches to solve varied problems.
• Collaborate closely with product managers and other engineers to understand business priorities and propose new solutions
• Share your expertise by hosting brown bags, tech talks, and promoting suitable tech and engineering best practices
• Define and enhance business and product metrics to optimize the quality and cost of AI usage
• Increase efficiency in the Data Science team: Research and introduce new tools/processes to assist the team in experimenting and increasing productivity with AI/ML technologies from across the industry

Skills & Attributes

• 6+ years of practical experience in data science and development of machine learning models
• Experience cooperating with product and engineering teams to deliver measurable customer value with predictive solutions
• Familiarity and ease working in large scale environments with unstructured or semi-structured data utilizing SQL and Python (bonus for MQL)
• Clear comprehension of the risks and trade-offs involved in choosing different models
• Demonstrated understanding of the entire data science development lifecycle, including experience delivering data science artifacts to production deployment environments
• Ability to seek empirical evidence through proofs of concept, statistical validation and external research
• Ability to translate efficacy measurements of data science models and products into tangible business impact metrics
• Proficient at communicating technical concepts to non-technical audiences, including business leadership
• Committed to contributing to a collaborative, enjoyable, and psychologically safe work environment
• PhD or Masters degree in a quantitative/computational discipline (computer science, applied mathematics, statistics, physics, operations research, etc.)
