Meet the team:
We are looking for a seasoned Staff Data Scientist to join our Data Strategy and Analytics team. Our team is responsible for identifying and directing the long-term data needs for the company and ensuring efficient use of quality datasets across the organization. This incorporates dataset profiling, data retention strategies, integration and partnership opportunities, and organising data collection campaigns that aid product development.
What you’ll do:
- Lead and actively engage in conceptualising, designing, and deploying state-of-the-art machine learning and data science models, algorithms, and predictive analytics to tackle complex challenges in autonomous vehicle technology
- Work closely with multidisciplinary teams to identify opportunities for data-driven solutions, leveraging your data science expertise to optimise our self-driving truck systems and refine operational processes
- Analyse extensive datasets to uncover significant trends, patterns, and insights, leveraging sophisticated statistical techniques and data manipulation
- Collaborate with engineering departments including Data Engineering and ML Ops teams to develop and manage robust data pipelines that ensure data integrity, reliability, and consistency throughout the data lifecycle, aiding the enhancement of our self-driving truck capabilities
- Offer mentorship and guidance to junior data scientists and data analysts, promoting skill development and knowledge sharing that uplifts the entire team
- Present complex findings and insights in a clear, persuasive way to technical and non-technical stakeholders, influencing strategic decisions and propelling the progress of autonomous vehicle technology
- Stay on top of industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in data science and machine learning, proactively applying your knowledge to improve existing methodologies
What you’ll need to succeed:
- Master's or Ph.D. degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related field
- Skills in relevant programming languages like Python or R, along with expertise in using data analysis libraries (e.g., NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn)
- Robust foundation in statistics and mathematics, covering skills in hypothesis testing, regression analysis, clustering, and time series analysis
- 8+ years of professional experience in data science or related roles, demonstrating hands-on experience in developing and deploying machine learning models within real-world applications
- A proven success record in leading and executing complex data science projects, ranging from problem formulation, data preprocessing, model selection, to evaluation
- Expertise in various machine learning techniques, including supervised and unsupervised learning, deep learning, natural language processing, and reinforcement learning
- Proficiency in working with big data technologies like Hadoop, Spark, or other distributed computing frameworks
- Demonstrated experience in processing large volumes of sensor data and applying time series data analysis techniques
- Deep understanding of SQL querying in data warehouses and experience using business intelligence tools (e.g. Tableau, PowerBI, AWS Quicksight, Ploty, Matplotlib) for data visualization
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, paired with the ability to meet challenges with creativity and innovation
- Excellent communication skills to effectively convey technical findings and concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Adaptability to excel in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, managing multiple priorities and deadlines with grace
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to build trust and forge strong working relationships, create and proofread documents and reports effectively, and communicate to a diverse workforce
- Sharp attention to detail to identify problems and processes that don’t comply with protocol
- Critical/logical thinking to identify problems and offer solutions to ensure efficiency, safety, and quality
