Data Scientist

Job title: Data Scientist Responsible to: Xodus Internal Data Scientist (functional), Digitalisation Manager (Client / Project) Employment: Contract Duration: Fixed term, 2 years (option for permanent position at the end) Location: Doha, Qatar Division: Digital & Data Requirements Overall Purpose of the Role As a member of the growing Xodus Digital team and the in-country Qatar team supporting one of our major client’s digital transformation roadmap, you will work within the Digital Program Group to deliver our customer’s roadmap of use cases. This role will lead and develop data science within the Digital Program Group of our client with close interactions with the Information Systems Data & Information groups and the various technical departments. Ideal candidates for this role will have: - Oil & Gas experience and knowledge - Experience of data exploration and uncovering data requirements (as opposed to waiting for data to be provided) - Experience of guiding vendors to implement digital solutions - Experience of training models after “go live” and pushing operational insights back into live systems - Coding expertise, preferably in Python Key Responsibilities Primary Duties - To participate in the development of data science strategy and tactics to support our client’s strategic objectives to become a data driven company - To promote data science & analytics to increase business insights to resolve technical issues or support decision making processes - To contribute and propose ways to maximize the value of Geosciences, Operations, HSE, etc. data - To manage relationships with internal and external vendors for data science Key activities Development - Develop algorithms and data driven analytical solutions to enable in-house use case building - Manage data science pilots (big data and / or data mining), MVP or use cases in coordination with business and IS subject matter experts - Document and capitalize on data science solutions implemented as part of pilots, MVPs and use cases - Identify the needs of the technical departments in terms of analysis and visualization of structured and/or unstructured data through big data and/or data mining approaches - Support user acceptance testing of the models delivered by the vendors - Explain sophisticated data science concepts in an understandable manner Roll out - Ensure and promote the adoption by the users of the concepts and possibilities provided by data science within the technical departments - Support the transition to project/use case mode & support the implementation and deployment at scale of big data and/or data mining solutions Enhancements - Support the required re-training and enhancement of the models - Develop algorithms and data driven analytical solutions to enable in-house enhancements development - Monitor new methods as well as software and hardware technologies and technological trends - Participate in the development of partnerships to develop solutions and/or methods Professional Qualifications & Experience - Master of Science degree preferred. Specialization data science or in engineering - More than 10 years’ experience with deep knowledge and highly skilled in data analysis, software development, data modelling, ETL solutions, etc. - Strong interpersonal communication, team spirit behaviour, and proven ability to work cross-functionally.
