Senior Product Manager, Foundation Models

Job expired!
Who are we? We’re a small, diverse team working on the forefront of machine learning. At Cohere, our goal is to develop machines that comprehend the world and make them safely accessible to everyone. Language is central to this, but parsing the syntax, semantics, and context can be challenging and costly. Cohere's platform allows access to Large Language Models via APIs that read billions of web pages, learning to understand the words' meaning, sentiment, and intent in unprecedented detail. Following our recent Series C fundraising, we are now focused on bringing our technology to market. Our plan is to collaborate with customers to incorporate natural language understanding and generation into their products using simple lines of code. We have a bold vision: we believe that our technology will fundamentally revolutionize how industries interact with natural language. Our CEO, Aidan Gomez, co-authored the seminal paper "Attention is all you need", and previously worked for Google Brain. Our entire technical team is world-class. We strive to create an inclusive and diverse work environment where all our team members can thrive. We welcome talented and kind individuals from all walks of life to join our team. Why this role? Product Managers have a unique opportunity to define product vision and deliver results. In this role, you will work with a leading AI and NLP team to develop the product vision and company culture. As a Senior Product Manager, your responsibilities include:

Customer Engagement and Research

  • Collaborate with developers and enterprise clients to understand their needs and pain points through feedback, focus groups, customer interviews, conferences, etc.
  • Conduct research on the competitive landscape, industry trends, and stay current with the latest AI and deep learning papers from leading conferences to generate new ideas and inspirations for the team.
  • Analyze product data to understand usage and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Work with leadership to shape and understand company strategy and goals.

Design and Product Development

  • Use insights from customer engagement to define and prioritize the product roadmap.
  • Define and design improvements and features, setting metrics for success.
  • Introduce new initiatives and features.
  • Work with partners and leadership to prioritize short and long-term investments.

Execution

  • Make tradeoffs when unexpected challenges arise during the development process.
  • Lead internal product planning, coordinate team resources and inform stakeholders.
  • Ensure projects are rolled out with clear metrics and hypotheses and define the following steps for success.
  • Publicize and celebrate successes and document learnings, internally and externally.

Team and Company Impact

  • Embrace additional roles and responsibilities as needed by the team or project—it’s a startup, after all!
  • Promote a culture of learning and listening.

You may be a good fit, if:

  • You have 5+ years of product management experience with at least 2 years of hands-on work with NLP, Deep Learning, and/or LLMs.
  • You have direct experience guiding the work of research-inspired teams developing AI models and products.
  • You have direct experience making highly technical products simple and usable and launching them to enterprise customers.
  • You have a scrappy, startup mindset — able to move fast, iterate quickly, learn on the fly, and take initiative.
  • You have excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working across diverse teams, personalities, and working styles.
  • You have a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent technical experience.
  • [Bonus] You have an advanced technical degree or a background in machine learning, algorithms, large scale systems, and statistics.
