Nuro's autonomous, product-oriented solution can afford you valuable time and increased freedom to pursue your passions. This convenient, environmentally friendly alternative to driving can potentially enhance road safety and make cities more inhabitable.
About the Work
- Break down system and subsystem requirements into module level requirements. Examples of these include perception recall and precision requirements for different object types at varying distances, localization pose error requirements, and permissible control errors for failovers.
- Collaborate closely with software engineers, team leads, and product managers in order to review and suggest alterations to module level evaluations that improve the chances of meeting the set validation gates for deployment—such as, permitting prediction evaluation performance in close vicinity to VRUs or limiting the rate of incorrect context maps for traffic lights.
- Work in conjunction with simulation engineers to ensure the use of accurate, appropriate tools to assess the functioning of various modules and their interactions—Are we testing the right parameters in the correct manner? For instance, suggesting modifications to simulation latency models in LS.
- Recommend test suite coverage for module level evaluations, while also ensuring the realism and relevance of the proposed tests. For example, validating if synthetically created scenes for observed collisions in hidden miles accurately depict the relevant module’s failure mode with adequate variation, without compromising the scene specificity.
- Set up intra or inter-module budgets for metrics such as latency and pose to ensure that the overall system budget is maintained through appropriate module responsibility demarcation.
- Assist in SOTIF and fault management analysis at the module level, and serve as a Systems point of contact to the software department for your assigned modules.
- Work closely with the Robots hardware and operations safety team to assess the impact of any modifications in their own modules on the hardware or operations and vice versa. For instance, requirements for using a modified camera for deployment (Entron), the introduction of ABS on R2, or unexpected faults on the wheel speed sensors.
- Collaborate tightly with hardware systems engineering to prepare the next generation of robots for autonomy and operation.
About You
- Detailed comprehension of robotic systems and the ability to apply this understanding in building tools and infrastructure to evaluate the systems.
- Prior experience in working extensively on at least one primary autonomy module: localization, perception, prediction, motion planning, and controls.
- Direct experience in systems engineering (safety experience is NOT necessary).
- Ability to write Python and read C++ code.
- Outstanding communication skills - both oral and written.
- Minimum 10 years of relevant technical work experience, with at least 6 years spent in robotics software.
