Who we're looking for

Zendesk is seeking a motivated contributor with a forward-thinking mindset, a coach-player attitude, and expertise in data modeling to join our Enterprise Data & Analytics team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading the data modeling strategy and establishing the foundation at Zendesk. Your deep understanding of data platforms and your extensive experience in large-scale, high-profile projects will enable you to shape the future of Zendesk's data model as we implement our new data warehouse.

What you'll be doing

  • Direct the strategy, information architecture, and implementation of solid and scalable data models, ensuring data accuracy and integrity within the organization's data ecosystem, and enhancing the effectiveness of operations and business results.
  • Proactively manage and leverage large volumes of data to architect a high-performance database solution using platforms such as Snowflake, BigQuery, dbt, AWS S3, Hadoop.
  • Utilize your deep understanding of business needs to create impactful data model solutions that contribute to specific strategic outcomes, and demonstrate the ability to evolve solutions as business needs change.
  • Build relationships with key senior leaders & stakeholders to evaluate business requirements, discuss options and provide Snowflake or Star schema modeling solutions to address business needs.
  • Lead thinking for the team of staff engineers, ensuring we stay current with and leverage the best technology for our enterprise data.
  • Navigate slowly changing dimensions effectively to ensure solutions meet data privacy requirements for GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA, etc.
  • Lead and participate in information architecture design reviews, offering substantial feedback, critique, and recommendations.
  • Work with ED&A, Product and Analytics leaders to ensure the work of data architects, data scientists, and analysts best meets the company's current and future data needs.
  • Promote data governance standards and manage model metadata.

What you bring to the role

  • A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a similar field.
  • Demonstrated experience in building enterprise data models for large organizations.
  • Experience leading productive and engaged engineering teams.
  • Expertise in Snowflake or Star schema modeling.
  • Experience with Snowflake, BigQuery, or Teradata data platforms.
  • Proficiency in SQL, Python and other data languages (SnowSQL, SparkSQL).
  • Familiarity with data modeling tools such as Erwin, SQLDBM and the ability to apply appropriate tools in the AWS environment.
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing and techniques.
  • The ability to influence executive leadership, peers, and teams to achieve desired results.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills with an eye for detail.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

The US annual base range for this position is $206,000.00-$310,000.00. This position may also qualify for a bonus, benefits, or related incentives. While this range indicates the minimum and maximum new hire salaries for the position across all US locations, the offer for the successful candidate will be based on job-related skills, relevant experience, and other factors like work location. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only (or OTE for commission-based roles), and do not include bonuses, benefits, or related incentives.
