We are searching for a data architect to join our data engineering team.

Isomorphic Labs is a new company under Alphabet that is reconceptualizing drug discovery through a computational- and AI-first approach.

Your Impact

This is a thrilling opportunity for you to develop a greenfield ML-based software platform set to change the biopharmacological landscape.

Employed in a highly creative and iterative environment, you will join forces with prominent engineers, scientists and ML researchers to construct the essential platform driving the change. This is a newly established position and will require you to apply your past experience and show initiative to optimally shape your contribution.

What you will do

  • Assume a critical hands-on role in the design and building of Isomorphic Labs’ cloud-based data platform.
  • Implement and define data governance solutions to secure data freshness, quality, consistency, discoverability, security, and compliance.
  • Design the architecture and write software for the platform’s components.
  • Develop and deploy solutions for dataset version control and lineage tracking.
  • Aid in the creation of a data lake or lakehouse, centralizing several of Isomorphic Labs’ main data assets and making them accessible for machine learning workflows.
  • Engage with interdisciplinary stakeholders to establish and maintain data models.
  • Offer documentation, guidance, and communication about the data platform to the broader organization.
  • Collaborate with a diverse range of teams including but not limited to science, ML research, product development, business development, and operations.

Skills and qualifications

Essential

  • Experience with the architecture of data intensive systems in a machine learning environment
  • Experience developing data governance and data lifecycle management solutions
  • Practical experience building secure and scalable platforms on the cloud
  • Robust understanding of data management tools and technologies including ETL frameworks, orchestration systems, database engines, and object stores
  • Software engineering experience accompanied by software design/architecture skills
  • Proficient programming ability in a language such as Python, Java, Scala, C/C++, or Go
  • Demonstrated ongoing career advancement and a passion for learning
  • Either a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience

Nice to have

  • Basic understanding of biology/chemistry
  • Experience with life sciences data, encompassing bioinformatics, computational chemistry, and biomedical research
  • Familiarity with contemporary data platform solutions such as Databricks, Snowflake, or equivalent
  • Experience working with life science ontologies
  • Machine learning experience
  • Knowledge about the pharmaceutical industry, ideally related to drug discovery
  • Experience building, deploying, and maintaining systems on GCP in a production setting
  • Strong python experience
  • Exposure to data curation

Hybrid working
