Job Description

We are seeking a Data Scientist for our Marketing Services division to help us gain insight from our vast amounts of data through predictive modeling and data analytics. This will allow us to make smarter decisions and deliver excellent products to our clients. Your main focus will be on building commercial data products: we need to convert raw data into information that can generate attributes and variables, which our clients can use to enhance their own analytics initiatives and make more informed decisions.

You will also support our business teams, pre-sales, and analytics to ensure optimal product creation.

Someone who has recently graduated or has 1-2 years’ experience as a Data Scientist would ideally suit this role. However, we may also consider an experienced data engineer or analyst who is prepared to take on a new challenge in a company that offers extensive opportunities for career advancement and development.

What you need to bring to the role & Experian

  • You must be a problem solver who can take a question and use data to provide a clear and direct answer.
  • You need to be self-motivated and constantly seeking knowledge.
  • We want you to be excited by the prospect of working with large and diverse datasets.
  • You will be given the opportunity to work with the latest technologies in Data Science like LLMs, NLPs, and generative AI, but we expect you to be proficient in simpler models.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Using quantitative methods to conduct exploratory data analysis (EDA) on Experian’s data sets using markdown tools such as Jupyter.
  • Data quality is at the core of our work: You will need to maintain the highest standards for data and collaborate with our data engineers to implement solutions based on your findings.
  • You will be required to perform the necessary data preparation as part of building your models, and then translate your markdown analyses into scripts that can be run in an automated fashion using tools such as Dagster, Airflow, MLFlow, etc. You will guide the data engineers on replicating your data preparation steps.
  • You will present the results of your work either as markdown reports or visually through dashboards when required. We use both Tableau and PowerBI, but open source alternatives are welcome.
  • You may be tasked with training our consulting team, clients, or even our global team on how a specific model or solution works.

Qualifications

More about you

  • You need to have a firm grasp on fundamental concepts such as probabilistic distributions, regressions, decision trees, and gradient boosting models. You should also have experience with unsupervised modeling for clustering such as DBSCAN, k-means, GMM, HMM, and hierarchical clustering.
  • Profound knowledge of SQL. Knowledge of DBT and Snowflake is a significant advantage.
  • Deep knowledge of Python (both for markdown tools such as Jupyter and Python scripting). Knowledge of Dagster is an advantage.
  • Ability to visualize data and tell stories, using either Tableau or PowerBI, or any other visualization framework.
  • Basic understanding of containers (Docker) and AWS Cloud
  • Basic understanding of Git
  • Preferably, you are a graduate or have 1-2 years experience in roles such as Data Scientist, Data Analyst, or Data Engineer and have a qualification in either Economics, Mathematics (STEM), or Finance

Why this role is important to us

  • Our business thrives on our ability to leverage data and advanced analytical capabilities to help numerous brands across A/NZ communicate with their consumers. Thus, you will have a crucial role in creating valuable data products that set them up for success. Our product development team is responsible for maintaining our core data assets in the region, so you will be involved in making crucial decisions that drive our business forward.
