Job Description

The Fraud unauthorized risk team at Afterpay mainly handles Account Takeover and Stolen Financial risk issues.

As a Fraud Decision Scientist at Afterpay, you will be accountable for maintaining the core KPIs associated with the company's loss metrics while ensuring a good customer experience. Your responsibilities will include setting objectives, devising strategy, and working closely with product managers, engineers, and stakeholders. You will be tasked with identifying changing fraud patterns, creating rules, and consistently monitoring the performance of the solutions.

Your duties will include:

  • Managing and refining the fraud strategy framework, including fraud model strategies and flash fraud surgical rules
  • Developing and enhancing the fraud model strategy automation process to keep the strategy current with optimal performance
  • Reviewing daily cases swiftly to identify flash fraud trends and counteract loss leakage
  • Quickly responding to system issues and thoroughly investigating root causes
  • Mastering extensive data volumes, extracting and manipulating large datasets using standard tools like SQL and Python

Qualifications

You possess: 

  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in quantitative statistics, math, business, or related fields
  • Prior experience in fraud risk solutions is highly advantageous
  • Proficiency in data mining and analysis tools such as Python/ SQL etc
  • A deep understanding of fraud patterns, such as ATO or stolen CC
  • Superb time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize evolving responsibilities
  • Effective communication skills, capable of understanding and synthesizing requirements from various project domains
  • An understanding of the relationship between your developed software and the experience it delivers to clients

Additional Information

Block utilizes a market-based approach to salary, which can differ based on location. U.S. locations are split into four zones based on labor cost indices. The starting salary for the successful candidate will be determined by considering job-related skills, experience, qualifications, location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $167,300 - USD $204,500
Zone B: USD $158,900 - USD $194,300
Zone C: USD $150,600 - USD $184,000
Zone D: USD $142,200 - USD $173,800
