Why We Need You
We are looking for an experienced AI Software/Research Engineer with expertise in Deep Learning Weather Prediction (DLWP), software engineering, and ML Ops. This remote position, reporting to the Director of Meteorological Engineering, plays a vital role in transforming our research organization and advancing the future of forecasting.
Location: Canada. The role requires working East Standard Hours.
What's the Day-to-Day Like?
- Lead DLWP research tasks from ideation to execution.
- Manage the adoption and adaptation of open-source DLWP models.
- Deploy DLWP models using state-of-the-art accelerators.
- Champion technical designs, oversee project management, and document ML systems and pipelines.
- Mentor and lead a diverse team of meteorologists, climatologists, data scientists, and software engineers.
- Promote a culture of inclusivity, psychological safety, and transparency.
- Coordinate roadmaps with key stakeholders.
- Minimal physical effort required; infrequent travel to Oakville, Canada, may be necessary.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional experience.
- At least 1 year of leadership experience or demonstrated leadership abilities.
- Background in Meteorological and/or AI, with coursework or published research in weather/climate forecasting or artificial intelligence.
- Experience with the full AI lifecycle and deploying deep learning models.
- Proficiency in Scientific Python, ML Python frameworks, debugging, distributed training, and modern DL architectures.
- General software engineering and cloud infrastructure skills, including experience with coding, CI/CD, and cloud orchestration tools.
- Knowledge of weather and climate data and their processing and verification techniques.
- Exceptional leadership skills, strong communication, and project management abilities.
- Experience with DLWP research models such as GraphCast, MetNet, ClimaX, FourCastNet, etc.
