Job Description

Data lies at the core of our work.

We are seeking an Analytics Engineering (AE) Lead to join our Insights team at Depop. Our Insights team empowers our product, marketing, strategy, finance, and operations teams to make data-driven decisions, and our AEs play a critical role in making data easily accessible to the analysts and the wider business. This role will oversee our AE roadmap closely with Depop's wider data engineering ecosystem and manage our team of AEs. To manage our growing information needs and support the analysis of increasingly complex business problems, you will:

- Ensure our data is suitable and accessible for business use, which includes helping design our data model and writing and testing dbt models and other ETLs, presenting data in an efficient and user-friendly format.
- Build and promote self-service tools and data best practices throughout the organisation, including managing our BI and reporting tools like Looker.

You will work closely with Depop's wide variety of stakeholders, as well as our Insights, MarTech and Data Engineering teams.

We’re building scalable and robust systems to process and analyze the large volumes of data produced by our technology ecosystem. With growing demand from other business areas and our 25 million users, you'll be instrumental in pioneering Data-as-a-Service.

Responsibilities

You will...

- Design a scalable data model to facilitate business insights.
- Manage a team of Analytics Engineers and shape the team's roadmap.
- Identify efficiency gaps and work with cross-functional teams to create solutions for smoother delivery and clear requirements for back-end engineering projects.
- Oversee the health and stability of our BI analytics tools and advocate for best practices for their scalable growth.
- Encourage company-wide best practices to access data and use our BI and reporting tools by creating clear documentation, tutorials, and hosting training sessions.
- Actively seek and implement ways to enhance data processes and warehousing for the Insights team.

Qualifications

Requirements

You have…

- Strong proficiency in SQL including an understanding of op- timizing query performance.
- Experience designing production-grade data ETLs using a tool such as dbt, or similar.
- Familiarity with Looker, particularly LookML developer proficiency.
- Experience with cloud-based data warehouse technologies, like Databricks, Snowflake, or Bigquery.
- Understanding of data modeling best practices.
- Skills for applying advanced analytical abilities and troubleshooting techniques to simplify complex problems into actionable tasks.
- Collaborative and humble team player ability to work with cross-functional teams, including those without technical experience.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced environment and positivity in response to change or uncertainty with a willingness to learn.
- High level of responsibility and organization.
- Desire to learn, natural curiosity, and attention to detail.
- Working experience with Python.

Bonus points if you have…

- Experience working on a marketplace, in a mobile-first environment or on social products.
- Experience managing a team of Engineers or Analysts.
- Experience building A/B testing analysis tools.
- Familiarity with workflow management tools like Airflow.

Must have:

- Cloud-based SQL warehouse experience (i.e. Databricks, Snowflake, Bigquery)

- ETL development using a tool such as dbt or similar
