Relay is a specially designed warehouse-to-doorstep delivery network that caters to the demands of e-commerce. Our service assists the foremost retailers in the UK (and hopefully worldwide, in the future) to deliver goods swiftly, cost-effectively, and more sustainably than current alternatives. Our continued success is contingent on our proficiency in creating and implementing sophisticated software. Our proprietary technology enables us to adapt the capacity of our logistics network to handle sudden influxes of demand from flash sales and holiday peaks. It empowers consumers with full control over the delivery date and location, and paves the way for the next generation of marketplaces and peer-to-peer commerce. We are significantly investing in our data platform and organisation, and are seeking an experienced data leader to assist us in establishing both from scratch. In this role, you can anticipate to… - Recruit and manage a compact but powerful team of data scientists and analysts. - Actively participate in constructing datasets, pipelines, reports, models, and other data artefacts. - In cooperation with the CEO and CTO, determine the company strategy for defining, implementing, and reporting metrics across the entire business. - Collaborate with the engineering team to develop Relay’s data infrastructure, experimentation tooling, and product instrumentation. - Team up with colleagues across all divisions of the company. - Routinely spend time in the field to understand how the data artefacts created by your team influence the real-world experiences of our couriers and end consumers. Requirements You could be an ideal candidate for this role if… - You consider yourself a “player-coach”, comfortable with both leading a team and working alongside them. - You are an exceptionally effective leader possessing profound technical skills. - You have a comprehensive knowledge across data science, engineering, and analytics fields. - You possess strong initiative and take great pride in your work, always seeking the best opportunities for impact. - You have a deep empathy for the individuals whose behaviour and success your work guides, including customers, partners, and colleagues. You seek to hear from them directly and make a conscious effort to incorporate their feedback into your work. - Clear communication, active listening, and intentional collaboration are qualities you value and practice. We are searching for candidates who… - Have at least six years of data science or data analytics experience in high-performing tech teams. - Have a minimum of two years' management experience. - Hold a degree (undergraduate or postgraduate) in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, physics, maths, economics, or computer science. - Optionally have experiences as founders or early members of high-growth startups.
