Job Description: Machine Learning Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Machine Learning Engineer to join our innovative team. As an early member, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our product and company. Your primary responsibility will be developing models to accurately predict essential process parameters utilized in our production systems. With our robots and sensors generating extensive data every second, you will ensure proper data capture, storage, analysis, and modeling to advance smart manufacturing technologies. These capabilities will empower our aerospace and automotive clients to manufacture parts faster, more cost-effectively, and produce components previously deemed unattainable.

In this role, you will leverage your expertise in empirical model development within the tech sector to revolutionize the manufacturing industry. Your software development skills will be critical in creating reliable applications that incorporate your models. You will follow agile development practices and implement high-quality software that seamlessly integrates with our production systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with the Engineering team to identify opportunities for machine learning automation and predictive modeling across all Machina Labs products.
  • Conducting data mining to uncover valuable insights and developing, training, and deploying models accordingly.
  • Defining appropriate metrics for each project that align with business objectives.
  • Performing data cleaning and ETL processes to extract relevant features for modeling.
  • Assisting team members with data analysis and interpretation.
  • Implementing proper A/B testing for various solutions or models.
  • Building pipelines that support concurrent machine learning models in production.
  • Developing monitoring tools to assess data quality and system performance.
  • Mentoring and supporting other engineers in their growth.
  • Participating actively in the interview process.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s, MS, or Ph.D. in Data Science, Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Over 2 years of experience with machine learning systems, algorithms, or applications, such as deep learning and time series analysis.
  • Experience in startup or early product development environments.
  • Strong understanding of fundamental CS algorithms and their scalability in data structures, algorithms, and software design.
  • Proficient programming skills with extensive experience in Python.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of build/release systems and processes.
  • Experience with data warehouses, data lakes, and ETL.
  • Familiarity with big data platforms (Hadoop, Spark, Hive) and orchestration frameworks (Airflow), as well as analytic environments (Databricks, Sagemaker, Jupyter).
  • Ability to rapidly learn new technologies.
  • Experience in fast-paced, iterative design, and manufacturing environments.
  • Strong communication skills for explaining complex topics to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Proven problem-solving skills with minimal supervision, either independently or as part of an integrated team.
