Job Description

is a communication platform for merchants to handle dialogues with their clientele across numerous channels (SMS, email, etc.). Situated within the Square ecosystem, Square Messages has integrations with various Square products that enrich messages with appointment scheduling, receipts, invoices, discount coupons, marketing, and more.

Messages is also home to – an AI-powered virtual aide helping merchants serve their clientele 24/7. Square Assistant responds to customers seeking assistance with their appointments, inclusive of cancellations, confirmations, and conversational rescheduling of appointments. For more nuanced customer requests, Square Assistant saves merchants time by utilizing an in-house large language model to propose replies, as well as actions integrating with the rest of the Square Ecosystem. In the upcoming year, we plan to broaden Square Assistant's capabilities in several ways, like tailoring replies for each seller or deploying larger language models in production.

We are on the lookout for senior AI engineers who have a keen interest in language modelling, conversational AI, and production machine learning at scale.

You will...

  • Play a pivotal role in designing and developing innovative conversational AI systems within Square.
  • Train and introduce avant-garde language models.
  • Build and maintain AI infrastructure handling millions of conservations.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and other engineering teams to design, improve, and launch new product experiences.
  • Cooperate cross-functionally with other Square teams to enhance the Messages platform integrations.
  • Deliver cutting-edge AI to businesses that traditionally haven’t had access to it.

Qualifications

You have…

  • 6+ years of experience with Machine Learning.
  • Experience with Large Language Models OR comparable Deep Learning experience.
  • Experience with is strongly recommended.
  • Experience with Python. Openness to programming in Java.
  • A track record of designing and maintaining production-level machine learning systems.
  • A dedication to writing clean and maintainable code.
  • Interest in contributing to the mission and roadmap of the team, and mobilizing others to join you.
  • A willingness to share your ideas, and openness to the ideas of others.

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to compensation, and salary may differ based on your geographical location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones according to the cost of labor index for that specific area. The successful candidate’s starting salary will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. There may be alterations to these ranges in the future.

Zone A: USD $202,500 - USD $247,500
Zone B: USD $192,400 - USD $235,200
Zone C: USD $182,300 - USD $222,800
Zone D: USD $172,200 - USD $210,400
