As a Data Scientist at Capital One, you will be part of a team pushing the boundaries of disruption on a new scale, utilizing cutting-edge computational and machine learning technologies, operating on billions of customer records to unlock significant opportunities that help everyday people save money, time and stress in their financial lives. In this role, you will: - Collaborate with a team of data scientists, software engineers, and product managers to deliver a product that customers love - Use a wide range of technologies—Python, Conda, AWS, H2O, Spark, and more—to uncover insights within large quantities of numerical and textual data - Develop machine learning models throughout all stages, from design to training, evaluation, validation, and implementation - Use your interpersonal skills to convey complex information into tangible business objectives The ideal candidate is: - Innovative: Continually researching and evaluating new technologies, staying abreast of advanced methods, technologies, and applications, and seeking opportunities to apply them - Technical: Comfortable with open-source languages and keen to further develop. Has hands-on experience creating data science solutions using open-source tools and cloud computing platforms - Statistically minded: Has experience building, validating, and backtesting models. Understands how to interpret a confusion matrix or a ROC curve. Has experience with clustering, classification, sentiment analysis, time series, and deep learning - A data guru: Unfazed by “big data.” Able to retrieve, combine, and analyze data from various sources and structures. Recognizes that understanding the data often leads to excellent data science Basic Qualifications: - In the process of obtaining a Bachelor’s Degree with 5 years of experience in data analytics, a Master’s Degree with 3 years of experience in data analytics, or a PhD, provided the necessary degree will be obtained before the start date - At least 1 year of experience with open-source programming languages for large scale data analysis - At least 1 year of experience with machine learning - At least 1 year of experience with relational databases Preferred Qualifications: - Master’s Degree or PhD in a “STEM” field (Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics) with 3 years of experience in data analytics - At least 1 year of experience working with AWS - At least 3 years’ experience in Python, Scala, or R - At least 3 years’ experience with machine learning - At least 3 years’ experience with SQL Capital One will consider sponsoring a new qualified applicant for employment authorization for this position.
