Job Description

As a Senior Data Engineer for Visa Research, you will investigate and maintain diverse research projects within the Visa Research group. In this role, you will steer innovations by implementing technologies, methods, and solutions to create innovative products. You will drive innovation from conceptualization to implementation building upon machine learning, artificial intelligence, and big data research. You will research and develop seamless, quick, reliable, and secure payment solutions using both foundational and applied research techniques.

You will interact with various collaborators, senior executives, research scientists, software engineers, architects, and external entities like technology vendors, wallet providers, merchants, issuers, and senior product regional managers. You will discover and propose research and development opportunities, build development plans, create, and implement ideas.

Our team is focused on developing a new product suite for Visa’s real-time payment options! This suite will have a fraud-management focus and will be scalable across several markets at Visa. This suite will also incorporate 'real-time fraud monitoring' leveraging the newest Machine Learning & Deep Learning technologies. We're looking for Data Engineers of various backgrounds who are curious about creating something new and exciting for Visa.

You will have the opportunity and responsibility to shape the long-term vision for the payment industry and influence the direction of research and development across Visa.

Main responsibilities include:

  • Implement services needed to release AI and data science models capable of working with terabytes of data. This includes model associated attributes like one-time and ongoing automatic model training, deploying, and monitoring models, as well as platform associated attributes such as model repository, feature stores, data access layer.
  • Offer technical leadership for efforts surrounding tooling and infrastructure that enable teams to efficiently complete and maintain data science projects.
  • Work and collaborate with product delivery teams to fully implement the proof of concept and early product in Visa services and products.
  • Collaborate with research scientists, product owners, and architects to deliver a rapid-prototyping platform.
  • Advocate for innovation across organizations and industries as an expert in the field, either by providing consulting or contributing to technology talks and presentations.
  • Present technical solutions, capabilities, considerations, and features in business terms. Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks in a detailed and timely manner.
  • Make decisions on tradeoffs/priorities during the design and execution, such as tradeoff between performance and flexibility, scope and timelines, availability, and scalability, etc.
  • Present and demonstrate research solutions to a committee regularly.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between remote and office work. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), generally being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of relevant work experience and a Bachelor's degree, OR 5+ years of relevant work experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or more than 2 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) in Computer Science/Computer Engineering or other technology field.
  • Programming experience in at least one or more of languages like Java, Python, Scala, and Go.
  • Strong understanding of algorithms and data structures.
  • Experience and/or academic background in constructing and supporting scalable and reliable data solutions and AI/machine learning-powered systems that enable rapid prototyping and advanced analytics, using modern big data and ML/AI technologies (Hadoop, Spark, Cloud, No-SQL, TensorFlow, H2O etc.) in an agile manner.
  • Hands-on experience and/or academic background developing systems for the machine learning lifecycle: data preprocessing and feature extraction, model training and evaluation, and deployment and monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience and/or academic background partnering with data scientists and has knowledge about major machine learning paradigms, algorithms, and software tools.
  • Knowledge and experience working with Front-end web application frameworks (Angular/React) along with HTML, CSS, JavaScript is a plus.
  • Knowledge and experience working with REST/JSON-RPC services, SQL, and NoSQL databases is a plus.
  • Familiarity with the associated open-source ecosystem (e.g., mlflow, cortex, seldon, Kubeflow, tfx) is a plus.

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies depending on department needs.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position requires the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment such as telephones and computers.

FOR U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated range for a new hire into this role is 109,400.00 to 139,500.00 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary varies depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. Additionally, this role may be eligible for bonus and equity.
