Job Description

Data Scientists at Wolt construct and implement models to address business problems. Utilizing a range of methodologies, including statistical analysis, machine learning, and deep learning, they enhance critical processes within Wolt's online delivery platform and business operations. Their contributions significantly affect all 25 countries in which we operate.

The job involves taking ownership of machine learning use cases as part of a product or business team; from identifying opportunities to developing and prototyping a solution, all the way to maintaining, and enhancing a production-ready solution inside the embedded product team. We use various technologies and tools including Python, SQL, Spark, Docker and K8s, Snowflake, Looker, Airflow, and Kafka to get the job done, and we have a custom-developed machine learning platform (with key components being Flyte, MLflow and Selcon Core), available for our data scientists. We are always exploring new ways to improve how our data scientists work.

We are seeking a Data Scientist to join our cross-functional Merchant Catalog team, to work alongside engineers, product, design and analytics personnel, to create algorithms and solutions for enhancing our understanding of the various items that we sell, be it food or retail. This includes developing product hierarchies and categorizations from item descriptions and images. The team handles the domain from end to end, from creating approaches, to testing, to understanding their influence, and deploying and maintaining them.

📍This role can be located in one of our tech hubs in Helsinki, Berlin, or Stockholm, or you can work remotely anywhere in Finland, Sweden, Germany, Denmark, and Estonia. Qualifications

• You have plenty of hands-on experience with production-level Data Science projects — from prototyping to launching, maintaining, and improving production-ready solutions (i.e., you can and desire to handle a use case from beginning to end);
• You have a deep understanding and practical experience with machine learning and a solid grasp of statistics;
• It's preferable if you've had experience with NLP and large language models, and it's great if you have engaged with computer vision and image processing;
• Knowledge of experimental design and analysis, such as A/B testing;
• You have proficient programming skills in Python, which is our primary language for data science projects, and experience with databases (SQL). You value good software engineering practices and take pride in the quality of your code;
• Ideally, you'll also have a degree in a field relevant to Data Science;
• You're analytical and curious; we're looking for a self-starter with a drive to get things done. Also, you are an effective communicator, willing to collaborate with people inside and outside of the team.
