Machine learning is starting to revolutionize our product through personalization, driving significant impact across different parts of our platform including our newsfeed, our notifications, and the relevance of our ads. The Impact You’ll Make
You would be part of an agile and impactful team developing data-intensive products and working with data and features. You will assist in constructing the fundamental Machine Learning (ML) infrastructure that ML engineers will utilize for years as we accelerate our efforts to incorporate machine learning into our platform. You should be comfortable handling petabytes of data, writing clear design documentation, and building, debugging, and maintaining highly available distributed systems. The Machine Learning platform you construct will enable developers across Nextdoor to create superior ML products faster than ever before.
What You’ll Bring To The Team
- You will design, implement and integrate the next generation of Machine Learning infrastructure to enable our Data Scientists and Machine Learning engineers to build machine learning (ML) models that make real-time decisions for the Nextdoor platform
- You will collaborate with other engineers and data scientists to create optimal experiences on the Core ML platform, including but not limited to: the featurestore, the real-time serving layer and the offline training system
- Have a strong empathy for customer needs and insights as well as an intuitive understanding of the business problems we’re aiming to solve
- Extensive experience in one or more of the following languages: Python, Go, Java, or Scala
- Experience in designing, building, and debugging distributed systems
- Proven engineering skills. Experience in writing and maintaining high-quality production code
- Strong ability to work with other data engineers across the company, and consult, design, and review their projects
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, both verbal and written
- Ability to thrive in a dynamic startup environment
Your responsibilities will include:
- Participate in in-person Nextdoor events, trainings, off-sites, volunteer days, and other team-building exercises
- Build in-person relationships with team members and contribute to the KIND culture valued at Nextdoor
Bonus Points
- Master/Ph.D. in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field
- 4+ years of industry experience in applying machine learning on a large scale
- 4+ years of experience in building performant and scalable backend services
- Experience with Python, Kubernetes, Go, Kafka, Docker, Spark, SQL, AWS and the Unix environment
- Experience with machine learning libraries and frameworks like Xgboost, Sklearn, TensorFlow, PyTorch, etc
Rewards
Remuneration, benefits, perks, and recognition programs at Nextdoor come together to form one overall rewards package.
The starting salary for this role is expected to range from $207,000 to $230,000 annually, or potentially higher if your 'level' of proficiency surpasses the expected level for the role. Compensation may also vary based on location.
We also anticipate offering a significant equity grant for this role. Your first vesting date would be within the first 3 months of your start date, with an equal quarterly vesting.
The total compensation will depend on your relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
