Job Description
Visa Consulting and Analytics (VCA), Visa's consulting branch, is a global team of industry experts in strategy, marketing, operations, risk management, and economics consulting, with extensive experience in the payments industry.
Our VCA team provides:
- Consultation services tailored to the business objectives and strategy of our Visa clients.
- Business and economic perceptions and insights that influence business and investment choices.
- Self-service digital solutions that Visa clients can utilize to enhance their product, marketing, and operation performance.
- Proven data-driven marketing strategies to amplify clients' return on investment (ROI).
The VCA team is seeking an individual to join our data science department, and contribute to the development of high-impact projects for Visa’s clients. This role will involve creating and executing statistical models to address the strategic needs of Visa’s clients, including issuers, acquirers, and merchants.
This role will develop data-driven solutions built upon massive Visa datasets. The challenge will be crafting high-performance algorithms, advanced analytic techniques like machine learning and artificial intelligence, and user-friendly workflows that allow our users to gain insights from big data, consequently driving their businesses. You will have the opportunity to work on high-performance analytic solutions handling billions of transactions and visualizations, identify opportunities to meet business and client needs quantitatively, and facilitate informed recommendations/decisions through activities such as creating ML models and executing jobs in big data clusters using various execution engines and programming languages like Python, (Py)Spark, etc.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy analytical models and techniques within the organization and for VCA’s clients, including issuers, acquirers and merchants.
- Work with substantial volumes of data, extract and manipulate large datasets utilizing standard tools such as Hadoop (Hive), Spark, Python (pandas, NumPy), SAS, SQL, etc.
- Hands-on skills in cleaning, manipulating, analyzing and visualizing large datasets.
- Data Cleaning/Wrangling - This involves parsing and aggregating disordered, incomplete, and unstructured data sources to generate datasets for analytics/predictive modeling.
- Develop and validate advanced analytics models, algorithms, and other capabilities to address business challenges.
- Utilize Visa's data and analytic capabilities, technology, and industry knowledge to develop, standardize, and implement consulting analytical solutions.
- Identify relevant market trends per country based on in-depth analysis of payment industry information. Interact and work with several internal and external stakeholders for the strategic definition of analyses and initiatives.
- Regularly develop and present innovative ideas to improve current business practices within Visa.
- Perform client-specific analyses on portfolio data, including proprietary information such as customer demographics, activity, spend levels, and financial information.
- Effectively communicate complex concepts and the results of analyses.
- Support in transferring technical knowledge to facilitate the implementation of provided business solutions.
- Document all projects developed including clear and efficient coding, and produce other necessary documentation.
- Identify and share best practices on key topics.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees divide their time between remote work and office work. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), generally spending 50% or more of their time in the office based on business requirements.
Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
- 8 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications
- 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
- Minimum of 5 years of work experience in financial services/banking, credit cards, or retailer/merchant analytics.
- A strong interest in the future of payments is essential.
- Key contributor to strategic projects
- Assists in staff and resource allocation to projects.
- Continual development and presentation of innovative ideas based on data-driven approach to improve current business practices within Visa.
- Practical experience extracting and manipulating large datasets (Big Data) using standard tools such as Hadoop (Hive), Spark, Python, SQL, etc.
- Experience in advanced analytics and statistical modeling including Linear Regression, Logistic Regression, Clustering methods (e.g. K-means), Classification models, among others.
- Experience in training/testing Machine Learning models (Random Forest, Gradient Boosting, SVM) using Python (scikit-learn) and other ML/AI frameworks, with Spark MLlib being a plus.
- Experience in deploying and monitoring end-to-end ML pipelines with comprehensive knowledge of metrics and ML best practices.
- Proficiency in data visualization and tools like Tableau and Power BI
- 3+ years' experience in designing and developing interactive dashboards and reports
- Strong understanding of human-centered design principles and best practices for data experience design
- Experience in building and deploying production-level, data-driven applications, and data processing workflows/pipelines.
- Outstanding communication skills (both oral and written) and organizational skills.
- Strong project management skills and the ability to juggle multiple projects while meeting required deadlines.
- Experience of managing/working in Agile teams.
- A strong interest in the future of payments.
- 3+ years' experience in designing and developing interactive dashboards and reports.
- Solid understanding of human-centered design principles and best practices for data experience design.
- Ability to translate data analysis insights into business language.
- Proven ability to rapidly learn and apply new techniques.
- Strong teamwork, relationship management, and interpersonal skills.
- Results-oriented.
- Fluency in English/Spanish (spoken/written).
