Job Description

We are seeking Product Data Scientists (PDS) to join Block and help build Cash App, the fastest growing financial app worldwide. The Data Science team at Cash extracts valuable insights from our unique datasets and translates those into actions that improve our customers' experience daily. We function in an embedded model where Data Scientists align with a workstream and collaborate closely with a group of cross-functional stakeholders to deliver statistical insights and guide product iteration through strategic analysis, experimentation, and A/B testing. 

As a PDS at Cash App, you will:

  • Collaborate directly with a Cash App product team, working closely with product managers, engineers, and designers
  • Analyze large datasets using SQL and scripting languages to present meaningful/actionable insights and opportunities to the product team and other key stakeholders
  • Approach problems from first principles, using various statistical and mathematical modeling techniques to explore and understand customer behavior
  • Design and analyze A/B experiments to assess the effect of changes we make to the product
  • Work with engineers to log new, useful data sources as we develop new product features
  • Develop, forecast, and report on metrics that guide strategy and facilitate decision-making for key business initiatives
  • Write code to effectively process, clean, and combine data sources in unique and beneficial ways, often resulting in curated ETL datasets that are easily used by the broader team
  • Create and share data visualizations and self-serve dashboards for your product team
  • Effectively communicate your work with team leads and cross-functional stakeholders on a regular basis

Qualifications

You have:

  • A bachelor's degree in statistics, data science, or a similar STEM field with 4+ years of experience in a relevant role OR
  • A graduate degree in statistics, data science, or a similar STEM field with 2+ years of experience in a relevant role
  • Advanced proficiency with SQL and data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Looker, etc.)
  • Experience with scripting and data analysis programming languages, such as Python or R
  • Experience with cohort and funnel analyses, a deep understanding of statistical concepts such as selection bias, probability distributions, and conditional probabilities
  • Experience in a high-growth tech environment
  • An appreciation for the connection between your work and its impact on customers
  • Intellectual curiosity and a passion for what Cash App is constructing

Block adopts a market-based approach to payment, and payment may vary based on your location. U.S. locales are categorized into one of four zones based on their labor cost index. The successful applicant's starting wage will be determined by job-related skills, experience, qualifications, workplace location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $152,100 - USD $185,900
Zone B: USD $144,500 - USD $176,700
Zone C: USD $136,900 - USD $167,300
Zone D: USD $129,300 - USD $158,100
