What We Do: Senior Research Scientists at the SEI utilize advanced abilities in statistics, mathematics, systems engineering, modeling & simulation, data science, and other technical fields in an interdisciplinary manner to aid our government and industrial clients in researching and solving cyber security issues. In this position, you'll collaborate with our clients to identify areas where advanced quantitative & technical abilities can help solve problems, plan and develop prototype solutions, and construct final products. You will have the opportunity to work with elite cyber security professionals and university staff to develop new technologies that will shape national cyber security strategy for years to come. You will participate in writing research proposals, conducting studies, constructing models, and presenting findings to DoD sponsors and academic conferences. Our team engages in a wide array of projects. We are currently working on experimental designs for extensive cyber security research programs, researching human-in-the-loop machine learning, and building classifiers to identify security vulnerabilities in code. Furthermore, we work with generative AI and large language models, deep fake video creation and detection, data visualization, and natural language processing. We have access to a broad range of cyber-related data, including malware samples, netflow data, cyber security training runs and tests, incident tickets, and more. If you are an experienced researcher with an interest in cyber security, we would love to hear from you! Requirements: • BS in computer science, statistics, engineering, mathematics or another highly-quantitative field with ten (10) years of experience or equivalent combination of training or experience; or MS in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or another highly-quantitative field with eight (8) years of experience; or PhD in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, Mathematics, or another highly-quantitative field with five (5) years of experience. • Willingness to travel modestly to various locations to support the SEI's mission. • You will undergo a background check and must have the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance. • Applicants must currently be legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States.
