Our Data team is at the heart of developing Big Data technology/services and value-added data products. We create large-scale, secure data platforms in the cloud for data acquisition, processing, enriching, serving, consumption, and governance. Position Overview: Senior Staff Software Engineer

We are searching for a seasoned and proactive Senior Staff Software Engineer to lead the development of our Data Lakehouse architecture. Reporting directly to the Director of Data, this role involves designing, implementing, and operating software. Role Responsibilities

• Develop a vision and strategy for big data technologies and payment data applications, partnering with stakeholders for a Data Catalog, Data Lake, and Data Processing frameworks to build our Data Lakehouse.
• Hands-on programming in Java, Python, Golang, among other languages, to solve daily operational challenges and build data frameworks and services.
• Collaborate with team members and partners to tackle technical and business problems, designing scalable, reliable systems for customer needs.
• Champion innovation and a customer-centric service mindset by leveraging new technologies.
• Guide and mentor team members on architecture design, diagnostics, and best practices, including automation.
• Build and lead a high-performing Data team through effective coaching and talent attraction.
• Define success metrics and SLAs, ensuring operational excellence and delighted customers.
• Foster strong partnerships with internal stakeholders and external customers.
• Enhance Marqeta's technology brand through internal and external initiatives.

Requirements

• 12+ years of industry experience in software development, specializing in Java and big data platforms, with 5+ years in team leadership.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience; a higher degree is a plus.
• Proven expertise in Java; Scala is an advantage.
• Extensive hands-on experience with big data technologies, including Spark, Dynamo, Kafka, and Kubernetes.
• Strong background in cloud technology, particularly AWS.
• Skilled in designing scalable, reliable, and performant large-scale systems/platforms.
• Deep understanding of data management, analysis, processing, and operational excellence.
• Strong business and technical vision with a customer-centric mindset.
• Excellent collaboration and partnership skills.
• Experience with agile methodologies and solving complex problems with simple solutions.
• Outstanding communication skills, capable of conveying technical and business issues effectively.
